Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
My only concern with FWD is that drag will overcome forward traction.
What's the power output of the Castle system?

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
A couple post back you'll see that is also a concern of mine. But all I can do is try it and see what happens. In all reality I'm not out to break any speed records. Just doing it to have fun, and to be different. As far as power output, as in horsepower? I really have no clue. The guy who pointed me in the direction of this setup ran one for a while in his 10th scale car. He has since moved onto 8th scale trying to get 120 out of his current car.RC10th wrote:My only concern with FWD is that drag will overcome forward traction.

And now all that's left is a couple steering tie rods. But I like posting pictures so here's an update for the night.

And to think, this is how this project started.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
Looks good, But you may want to put a short body post under the hood just in front of the windshield. It doesn't have to protrude, but just touch the body, It will help the body from collapsing at high speeds.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
This is a cool project to watch...progression is great....
Although the gearing, battery and motor setup is all a sort of mystery to me, the car is has gotten to this stage fairly quick.
Im glad you treated us to great photos updates. It beats seeing updates every few months.
Im wondering how you are going to record your speed runs? GPS? maybe GPS and Phone

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
Ok. 1 test run in the books. And this is why we do shakedown runs before going all out. Cheap china universal let go at a descent speed. Hooked right and went spinning. In the process of slapping in the bones to do some more 2s testing.

Velcro'd an old phone in there for one short pass.
![Image](http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/romulus22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4169_zpsf2d9800e.png)
And tried taking a video. Had my phone sitting on top of the radio leaning on the antenna. Was watching my phone more than my car so I gave up.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
Oh damn, that was a nice run....
wouldnt have thought a universal would have given out like that.
Im going to have to make a bigger of effort to take some of my cars out....
Thanks for sharing the video man....very cool.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
End of testing for day 1
I stepped up to 4s and immediately could tell something was slipping. I didn't bring a nut driver so I couldn't tighten the slipper. I ran a few more runs thinking oh well a loose slipper never hurt anything. Turned out it was the diff.
![Image](http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/romulus22/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4172_zpsfa5cd70a.png)
You can hear it slip pretty good in this video

Instead of waiting to buy more parts for something I don't really need. I just cranked the diff tight and took it back out for a couple more runs. I went to a local Meijer parking lot right down the street from me as the sun is down by 6:00 now. Not as smooth as I would have liked. But using my trusty calibrated eyes I'd say it was pushing 80 easy. Then the last pass I tried making I noticed I was done for the day.

When I can make it to a better smoother place I will put the foams on and give it another try. But I've got a couple small things to do before then. Hopefully ill get some better video next time too.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
Awesome
Probably better without a diff for what you are doing. Maybe look at the traxxas slipper pegs instead of balls and give her hell.

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
I had that happen on my GTe buggy with the SL550 3500 KV can on 3S. Completely cut the center out of the diff gear. It's metal now, and tight as can be.Turned out it was the diff.
Definitely made a mess of those tires! From the looks of it, they were doing a fair amount of spinning. I'm bettin' foams won't last very long, either. lol.

Re: FWD-GT TOP SPEED CAR
The diff seems to be holding plenty tight now. The majority of the wheelspin is due to how small the lots were I was running in. Trying to get on the throttle too soon. Once I get out to a better longer spot this weekend ill put the foams on and ease into it much smoother. I think its geared a little high too so if I gear up it may tame down the power a little. I don't think there will be a need for 6s. It would probably just be un useable power anyway
