Do you have colour pics of this car? RC10 manual back cover!

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Hi guys,

I want to recreate the colour scheme of the car on the back cover of the RC10 manual. Has anyone got a colour pic or know what colours it was?

Warm regards

Ed, again, I'm at work right now and can't see your pic. If you are looking for the back cover pic from the early manual, I never saw a colored one. Nonetheless, Parma advertised their paints with the same paint scheme on their shelves back in the day, so I'm 100% sure this is the right color scheme. The only wrong thing on mine is the wing which is slightly different in design. Hope this helps :?

Sorry David, that's not the right paint job I am afraid. I even commented in that thread a couple of times saying how awesome it is  It is of course very nice and thanks for trying to help.

But the paint job I am after is on the back cover not on the inside at the back of the manual if you understand. It's the paint job with the chequer effect on the bonnet and wing if that helps ring any bells.

Side note for no particular reason:

I have been in work all day waiting for a meeting when I could be writing my thesis, grrrrrrrrrr.....

You talked about the back cover, is it a hand drawn image?

I too am at work and can't see the image, but thats the only checkerd pattern I can think of.

Yes that is the car, in that thread it is a hand drawing of the real car which I have pictured and is at the back of my manual. Thanks.

Ohhhh sounds interesting. It wouldn't happen to be in colour would it? Where would one get a copy of this dvd, or is it on google video or a file sharing website?

*Keeps fingers crossed*

Well let me check my copy to make sure it's the right car.. if so I'll take a screen grab from the video and post it up. :)

Edit: Just looked through Gene's 1984 and 1985 videos (1984 has the launch of the RC10, 1985 has the story of how AE put together the manual) It has the upside down shock car shell off and the box art car, but it doesn't have that shell which is weird as I'm sure I saw it on one of those videos... :?

Maybe i saw it somewhere else?

woops that escaped my attention at the first reading of this tread
and I am very curious now: is the dr. going to copy that trick to lower the CG also?

I once wanted to do the same cause the original losi shocks on my 2nd hander were spilling oil and new cartridges were nowhere available in belgium yet.

The earlier production cars and the prototypes were raced with upside down rear shocks as people believed they performed better this way, I am not sure it was a leaking issue.

I can't wait for Asso_man! to find this pic!!!!!!*crosses fingers even tighter*

I was being polite while referring to the lower center of gravity. I wouldn't know if RC10 shocks ever leaked: never had any. But it is pretty funny they did this only to the rear shocks. didn't he design allow to do the same upfront?

And , are you gonna copy that special feature?

Yup, it wasn't due to leaking. Asso shocks where the first that didn't leak!! Apparently according to Gene Husting, Jay Halsey mounted the rear shocks upside down because "the car worked better that way" Gene agrees that the car does handle better but could never really fathom why!!

I'm still trying to work out what car is on the back of the manual. It is definitely a prototype as it has the alu spring retainers and doesn't have associated front wheels.. It does have nose brace tubes though so it must be one of the later prototypes.

I'll keep looking for a colour pic too - hopefully one exists :)
