I understood exactly what you meant. As the chain would be rubbing the exact same places in the gearbox and chain guard that would be wearing away the belt, then if there was wear problems that would wear away a belt they would also show up as worn chain drive gearbox cases.

Not dismantled the car to check the belt for some time, but there's 6 years of regular bashing on the belt in mine without any noticable wear and it dose get a hammering. :D :D

I agree that it is fun to see how different companies approached the issue. Kyosho may have over-engineered it. I suspect that the after-market kits may rub, but the belts are thicker than the ones in the Kyosho kits, so they may hold up to any rubbing better.
