Re: Reliving my preteen years, got me another RC10 gold pan
Dug thru my friends attic today, found the original box for the RC10 and I found his old Pro-Ace battery charger. He also has a mint in the box Tekin 100 peak charger but its 12dc hookup only. The Pro-Ace is AC/DC. Not sure if I can use that old charger with the current Nimh batteries I have. It is also basicly brand new in its box. My RC10 is a cadillac model, $290 with ball bearings. Nice. That is the only way to be sure. My Rc10 (when it was stock) looked identical to yours but has an Edinger box.
. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

I was hoping to find the original manuals and decal sheet since he didnt use them on the body. But no luck. Atleast I got the box. I need to get my glue stick out, the end flap decals with the price and part numbers are coming unglued from attic heat and age. Rest of the box is near perfect after I cleaned off 25+ years of dust. Might try to recondition the old NIcad pack with this charger. The opinions of using the old adjustable current timed peak chargers on NiMH packs are all over the place. The one I ended up with has a 15min timed fast charge, seperate boost switch, seperate charge/discharge, adjustable current with meter and will do overnight trickle charge. Mike

Why not just get a new charger? You can get a peak-detecting nimh/nicd/lipo charger for $40!

Re: Reliving my preteen years, got me another RC10 gold pan
I know, trying to get other stuff. I managed to win a vintage RPM steering rack set up to replace my broken OEM one. Cost me almost $30 with shipping, but I should be good for awhile there. I am trying to see if the old Nicad pack will rejuvinate, I fast charged it for 15min, now its on trickle charge for the night to try and peak it. Costing me nothing to try, if its junk, I will snip off the plug and drop it in the recycle bin at Radio Shack tomorrow. I also hate having to buy something if I dont have to. Thats why I asked if the exhisting chargers would work. Guess we have some nice display pieces. The Tekin charger is neat looking and mint in the box, he never used it. Even has the decal sheet to put on the car ect. I will put them up on the shelf with the RC10 box in my room. This vintage stuff is fun, just a shame one cant realy use the old chargers, well I guess you can if you spend money on new Nicads. Thanks for all the great advice, I really appreciate it. MIke

if you have a old computer power supply
you can make a power source to run the tekin
on the pc supply
there is a 20 or 24 pin connector
there will be a green wire with a black wire next to it
cut the green and black wire and connect them together (this will make the supply come on when power is applied)
for your 12 volts
on one of the 4 pin molex connectors there will be yellow, red ,and 2 black wires
black is ground ,yellow is 12v and red is 5v

Thats fine and dandy, very interesting to say the least, never thought of that source for a power supply. But to what end if I cannot charge NiMH batteries with that charger, or can I? I wasnt planning to go buy Nicads again, while thats going totaly vintage, I dont think thats the best way to go for new batteries. MIke
