New Pics of Classic RC10's coming to Associateds Website??
so i shot steve husting a email, asking him if it was possible to take some nice digital pictures of any of the old/classic box art or race cars they may have laying around at associated. he responded to me, and maybe we will see these coming soon to the AE website, im pretty stoked.
here is what he sent back
Mike,
Gene Husting, my Dad, has a few of the older cars. I will see if I can take detailed pictures of them and put them in our Gallery section. Here are two links to a couple of oldies:

that can't be the actual car from deal pool. There is NOT ONE scratch on the bottom. No way. That car was jumped and thrashed pretty good in the movie. I cry foul!

As with any movie, they probably had three or four of the cars made just incase one got Lunched.FlyinGN wrote:that can't be the actual car from deal pool. There is NOT ONE scratch on the bottom. No way. That car was jumped and thrashed pretty good in the movie. I cry foul!

I know when they moved they were having Tony Phalen restore some cars so they could do a show room. Hopefully we'll see some of those cars soon.
On a side note... when they moved and had that "yard sale" whatever was left over was thrown away! Perish the thought of the white goodies that ened up in LA's finest landfill. LOL.

The story I read was that Jay showed up with a car that had more like 10 cells in it and it made the real car look slow. (They had him take some cells out of it just to be able to film it.) Back in the day that meant a mechanical speed controller, not an ESC. The car in the PDF was probably an unused mock-up, cause they really did punish the car(s) that actually ran.
I run a 3 cell LiPo in a 4WD. If you've never done it and have a beater to thrash, try upping it to around 11 Volts, just make sure your speed controller can handle it.

agreed, I did pick up a TMaxx for $30, a couple LRP speedos for $20 a pop. Tried to pick up a T4 RTR for $30, but they ran out before I got to the front of the line. I wasnt into vintage then, so I wasnt lookingmikedealer wrote:i talked to some people at rc10b4.com and they said EVERYTHING good was sold in like the first 30 minutes, everything.... they said the only things left were like t-maxx's and other non AE junk

I believe there were no white parts left long before that. There was an article in RCCA way back when where they had scoured the shelves for someone trying to restore an old car, and has pics.Erich Reichert wrote:On a side note... when they moved and had that "yard sale" whatever was left over was thrown away! what i dont get is why they just cant pour some white nylon into those molds again and make some parts.. it cant be that hard, or maybe it is lol, who the hell knows.. I know injection molding is a bitch, and the molds can cost thousands to make in some cases between design and making it...

They had quoted the reason for switching to black was to prevent people from dying the parts, thus changing them dimensionally. I believe that quote came from Cliff Lett in an interview about the engineering behind the B2. I'd wager that white virgin nylon (a selling point as mentioned on the early boxes) is more expensive than black less-than-virgin 'composite'...

Re: New Pics of Classic RC10's coming to Associateds Website??
Yeah, I remember a few years back when people first started to think of original RC10's a "vintage" car, that we were getting quite a few requests for white parts. We really did scour the warehouse, and came up with quite a few parts, but not enough to do whole kits. Also, when Garry Owen was there, we seriously looked at the feasability of doing a re-issue of the first generation RC10's, a 20-year anniversary limited run, but there were several molds for those original parts that were either lost, modified, or had just broken. It would have cost several thousand bucks to recreate those molds for just a few cars, so it was cost prohibitive.
Fortunately for me, when Wayne Campbell, warehouse foreman, retired he brought a big box of parts he had at his house into AE, and I got to put together my 100% virgin gold tub out of a lot of those parts... even got a couple of white battery cups with the fiberglass (pre-molded parts) straps. NNowdays, Pete Cooney, the purchasing agent, is probably the best guy to ask about the vintaghe stuff, he was there from the beginning, waaay before even Cliff Lett,,, and he knows all the iterations of each part, because he ordered most of them, HHe showed me the "A" chassis stamping on the tub chassis, the original Kyosho tires the first cars came with, and lots of other interesting tidbits.
By the way, I don't know why AE switched to black parts, it was slightly before my time there (started in '96)... but I'd also guess that white nylon doesn't composite attractively with carbon fiber.
If you want to see the mother lode of RC10 and AE history, it's at Gene Husting's house, He has a room full of incredible stuff, the Masami original Stealth car, a recreation of Jay Halsey's RC10, the original Curtis Husting RC10 (the orange one with all the handmade parts) the red, white and blue Jay Halsey/Trophy girl car from the famous ad, etc, etc, and lots of other great cars and memorabilia.
Actually, the last DeadPool RC10/Corvette was stolen (along with my vintage Tamiya Tyrrell 6-wheeler) out of the photo room at AE... while we were all in a lunch meeting... probably wound up at a swap meet somewhere for $20,,, I'm sure the people who swiped it had no idea what it was.

I went too. I got some motors, ESCs, a nitro engine, wheels, tires and a few other bits. There were no parts at all. Tons of jaguar controllers for $5, TONS of tires and a few bodies. That was pretty much it by the time I got there.JK Racing wrote: agreed, I did pick up a TMaxx for $30, a couple LRP speedos for $20 a pop. . They had cases and cases of AE/Yokomo/Losi tires that no one was touching.
