JRXT buggy runner

G'day everyone,

I'm getting keen on rebuilding my JRXT for use as a vintage class runner.

I bought it new in 1990 and ran it as a lwb buggy and never really did many mods to it except an RPM H-arm conversion, Kyosho gold shocks and ball raced steering.

I need some input and opinions to get this back on the track.

The shocks were stripped off to put back on my Kyoshos. I still have the original shocks but they leaked back in the day.

I have seen the bottom cartridges pop up on ebay and the like, but are they worth getting? Should I just fit up some Associated or later Losi shocks instead?

Should I get a slipper clutch setup? Parts are a bit of a pain to find...

H-arms or 5-link?

Not sure on what the older Kyosho shocks used for parts compared to the newer Kyosho stuff. You might be able to use some of the newer parts. I had a new Kyosho ZX5 4 years ago and those leaked like crazy so i put Losi shocks on it.

You could get some newer Losi shocks. They should be fairly cheap for the parts.

Slipper clutch would be good if you plan on trying to run it hard. That being said, the a3120 input shaft is starting to get pricey and hard to find. But then you also need a newer gear cover as well. Those are the only really old parts you really need to hunt for. You could run it as a 2 disk slipper setup and use more current parts for spur.

Seeing as over half the 5 link parts are selling for big bucks, I would go h-arm if it was me. I have never broken an h-arm, just stripped the shock mount holes.

the newer losi shock cartidges are all double oring units and will fit your stock shocks and the leaking will stop.

what kind of track? bumpy/rough then go with the 5link, smooth and fast run the h arms.

i don't run slippers on my x2's, didn't back in the day so i don't now.

Can you give me a required parts list for the slipper?

If I stick with the H-arms, should I go for a Pro-SE rear tower?

Kaiser,

I think I will try some new cartidges first. Then if that doesn't work for me I'll get some XXXT shocks.

The track/s I want to run at are fairly smooth. I will try the H-arms first.

I didn't run a slipper back then either. I will mostly be using a silver can in it but then again the gears are 20 years old...

Replacement gears are pretty rare now aren't they?

i don't know, i haven't needed any gears.

i've raced my jrx2, 17.5 brushless powered with boost at the last 3 vintage nationals and the gearbox is still buttery smooth.

the pro shock tower is good to use with the h arms, allows alot more positions.

Cool, I will go for a Pro rear tower then. What about for the front?

I will run without a slipper until the time comes when i can get my hands on the needed bits for it.

Is LOSA5015 the part no. for the shock cartridges?

Yes!

.... I should know, I spent an hour so last night re-building my JRX2 shocks with some fresh seals/cartridges. These later cartridges are lower profile so allow for more (outwards) travel compared with the old style items - I added the slightly thicker spacer (comes with the A5015 parts) on the shaft between the piston & cartridge to limit the shock action to be the same, hope that makes sense?

Good, thanks for that. I think I know what you mean about the spacers to limit down travel. I'll get some.
