Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
my first real quality car was they Kyosho Stinger. I beat that thing to death in no time, giving a nitro to a clueless 13 year old is probably not the best way to start out. Shortly after that I got an original ultima.
The ultima was traded for a lunchbox(my first tamiya) after getting a jrx-2. I had the stinger until '99 when I sold all my rc's(on ebay of course) except for the lunchbox.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Mine was a stock Ultima with red leaking shocks. I received it in 1989 and bashed it everywhere I could. Besides the radio plate, that car was solid as a rock. My father was working at Honeywell back in the day and he had access to electronic stuff. So he brought back some epoxy covered with copper and we made an unbreakable radio plate out of it. I can't remember how many mechanical speedos I burnt, lol, we even happened to make one of our own which was way less durable than the stock one... That car even went under a 1:1 car, everything was bent and crushed but I managed to make it alive again... Then I sold it to buy a wonderful TopCat, which was very soon converted to a Cougar... I wish I still had those rigs. Well I do own a TopCat now, but I really want to build a nice original Ultima, one day...

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
My first r/c car was a tamiya hornet and I loved it.......until I raced it after about 6 months of bashing and realised how poor it really was. That was the first time I saw an RC10 go round a track, must have been about 1986.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Mine was an RC 10 with the gold tub chassis and the 6 gear transmission circa 1987....I've since added several Custom Works oval cars, an ADX oval carpet car, I have an OFNA 8th scale off road car,a dn a modded T maxx, which is gettiing replaced with a new Savage X SS 4.6 this spring. Also in the mix are an NTC3 and an electric TC 3 FT car. I basically have half of my basement as an RC workshop, which is gonna expand to 3/4 once I move all my 32nd scale slots to an old bedroom on the 2nd floor of my house.....There are probably 3-4 other cars mixed in. I have an RC 10 based oval car that is going to get restored to how I ran it in about 1991-92 when I used to try and run the Central New York Mr. DIRT series in the Syracuse area. From about 1989 till around 2000, I ran dirt oval races from the Rochester are, over to Syracuse, to the NORRCA Nationals at Kranzels Speedway in Harrisburg PA. I don't race as much as I used to, but if anyone close enough to me opens another indoor dirt track for winter racing....who knows....hehe

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
For the life of me I wish I could remember the model. It was back in the mid-80's, 1/10th scale nitro off-roader 2wd. I remember it had no lexan body, but it had a full roll cage. I also remember that it had paddle tires in the rear. I *think* it was called baja something, or something baja. Yellow box??
Gawd I wish I had a better memory. Anyhow I remember the first time I ran it, radio went out of range and it crashed on it's roof. Rollcage was done. My father tried to build a rollcage for it out of some tubing, but it never looked or ran the same after that.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Either I am the poorest member here or the only one willing to admit my first car was a Tandy. Yep, the good ole CJ5 with a High/Low selector switch in the back. That was '85-ish, maybe 86. I still have the video, it was for Christmas.
I took my stomper pulling rig and hacked it up to make a trailer for my boat. It worked pretty good but looked like crap. You can only do so much at 13, hiding in the closet with a steak knife and your dad's Zippo. That was all the tools I had and was not suppose to be playing with either.
I found one NIB back in the Spring on the Bay. But it was in France I think and the shipping quote alone was something like $90. One day I'll find one. My brother got this silver thing with tracks and a claw in the front the same Christmas. I am constantly on the lookout for both.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Glad to be back. Turkey break could have been better. Thursday went really good, but really busy. Found out Friday though that the wifes granny, who practically raised her, was hospitalized Friday afternoon. I have spent the last 3 days with the wife trying to keep her mind from dwelling on it.Halgar wrote:Ok, HOLD ON!! Granny lives 1000 miles away in Chicago and is 91 years young. She has been ready to pass beyong the rim for several years now. The wife is taking it hard because granny has not seen my 2 year old and she keeps telling Kelly she wants to before she dies.
Tough stuff but anyway, had to get that off my chest. And I knew you would say something about the 13 year old closet thing

I'll learn to shut the door next time. I meant that figuratively. Crap, I just did it again, didn't I?

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Tamiya Hornet back in 1985.
Started racing about 2 years later with a Turbo Ultima. First time out with it I won in Novice class, only to have my 1st place trophy stripped from me when they realized I was running a 240ST motor (stock) in it. They said it was a mod motor.....

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Mine was a Tamiya Hornet that i got for my 11th bday in '86. My VERY unmechanical father and i would work on putting it together every friday night after dinner, took us over a month to finish it. Over the course of its lifetime it was a buggy, a monster truck and finally a six wheeled monster truck with two trannys. The battery door mysteriously disappeared so the batt would pop out all the time and the chassis was broken behind the front tower and melted back together with my trusty soldering iron... mmmmm I love the smell of burning plastic in the morning! Today the car has been fully restored to its orig condition thanks to the reissue a few years ago I"m still looking for a brand new black fiberglass mech speedo for it though and then it'll be all done.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
Mine was a Rockbuster. I believe it might be the MRC version of the Tamiya Grasshopper. I do know it is the same doggone chassis, etc as the Grasshopper. Anyhow...it did ok with a 540 motor, for a very short while.
My next purchase was my RC10CE in 94. Still have my baby to this day. Just drove it in the parking lot here at work at 0300.
Then I ticked off every dog in the neighborhood with my nitro buggy, haha! Duratrax Raze 1/8 scale. Best bang for the nitro buck out there.

Re: What was your first Radio Control Vehicle.
my very first rc was a TYCO!!!! a small 2wd buggy that used 8 double A batteries! cost $30 in a toys'r'us. probably '88. before then i didn't even know rc cars even existed. i was shocked to see them, it was my first time in a toy store and i left with the crappy thing! but it was fun to run in the kitchen and the yard. then a co-worker told me he raced rc trucks, i visited the track, saw my first rc10 and BLAMO! i was hooked! i had a couple tamiya trucks and a gold rc10 in the late '80s. then in the '90s i got the rc10t, which was the best thing since sliced bread!! way to many cars and trucks to even remeber them all soon came afterwards. i've sold or lost most of my collection, but i race the rc10t on ovals as often as i can. i never thought that a $30 TYCO would lead me to this point and all i experienced along the way!
