Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Hi and thank's for reading my thread . This is my 1st attempt at posting a build , ( spent plenty of time reading the great build's on 10 ) so any feedback on possible improvement's etc will be greatly appreciated.
My 1st contribution to my "build" thread is already built . I did take the time to document the build , so I hope you find some interest in this read.
This XX4 is what I intend on being my "runner" - using a 1st gen chassis - pretty happy with it - it will get a tekin rs pro combo - maybe 7.5 ?

I'm a retro radio control hipster - I only like the stuff no one bought!
Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Thanks Proffesso - this is a work in progress mate - it has been tinkered with abit - and hopefully with imput from fellow members - sort this buggy out into a good runner.
I am by no means a racer - I had a hotshot in 87 ( bought 2nd hand from the neighbourhood rich kid ) - drove it into the ground - shelved it and got into bmx and surfing . I got back into rc by chance - went to a rc shop with my brother in law - he's big on planes - spotted a rere hotshot and had to have it - that was 2007 I think .
I've built this to do the odd club night with , should be fun !
My 1st job was to fit the associated B44 posts to the chassis for the lipo's .

Looks great!
How do you find it with 22 shocks?
That paints cool too....

Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Thanks Urpaldan , have to purchase a combo for it , so I have no idea how it handles - itching but. The basis for them are front - stock 22 buggy fronts / rear - 22t bodies with 22 rear shafts - the extra body length gives me the space to play with limiters , to get it's ride height how I want it . To me the 22 buggy stock rears fitted makes it sit to flat - with no "hang" - excuse my slang .
Here are a couple pics of my saddlepack lipo conversion - I recessed the rear post into the curve of the chassis , to gain as much space between the battery brace and the steering servo which ended up being only approx 2mm . Under each post is a stainless steel washer and a cr hub spacer - with new battery pads fitted.
The conv. was done without a dremel - never again! Promptly went and bought 1 .

Glad I bought the dremel , fitting the Espeed steering rack required cleaning up around the steering tunnel - the rack was catching on the chassis slightly. You can see from the pics how much material was needed for removal - very happy with this mod - HG ballstuds are fitted
Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
I'm using RC screwz s/s hardware for my xx builds - good price and happy with the quality - here's a pic of the label for the xx4 kit - they do a metric XX4 kit - I stuck with the original sizing .
Can anyone shed light on why they would do a metric kit ? Seems strange to me .

Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Great to see another XX4 being put into action, love the battery mod you did,too-super clean, man.
Best handling buggy ever,I've vowed to never be without a XX4 runner and a shelfer...or two.
Let us know how she drives with the mods!
Anyone see the guy who fitted an entire Twenty Two rear end to his XX4?
(I hope he doesn't mind me posting these photos

That is 1 super cool mod there !
I've built the diff's using B fast ceramic balls / rings , steel outdrives on the rear / molded with saver rings on the front and alloy HG diff nuts .

Wow, that is one sweet runner you have there. Would love to see some action shots when you take her out. Nice job !
Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Found this in the parts bin at my lhs - asked the owner what else he had hidden - he reckon's some alloy versions as well - going for a dig next week. Very happy just finding these .
Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
I'm using the E speed carbon shock tower and chassis braces on my runner XX4 .
There much thicker than the penguin items . I don't know if there still available - but I did purchase the penguin rc kit direct from them only a few months ago.

Re: Cra$h's XX & XX4 Build's
Just to mix it up abit . Here's a pic of a new built XXT CR that I sold to my mate .
Checks and side motif are painted - jammin towers , mip , trinity etc .
Shouldn't of sold it - but it's gone to a good home
