Vintage lunford and Mirage SS Shell
Hi there,
I am looking to build an RC10 to a similar spec to the ones I raced back in the late 80's and early 90's. I have a kit but want to build the car with the period lunsford turnbuckles. They had a large hex for adjustment and looked very different to the more modern stuff. Does anyone know if there is somewhere I can get these turnbuckles?
I am also hoping to paint up a Mirage SS shell in period scheme. Which is the best repro of this shell and where can I find them?
Many thanks for any help you may be able to offer,
Luke

Ebay for the turnbuckles until you're around here long enough to get B/S/T access.
You can try to contact MrLexan for his Mirage SS repro body or get one from Team Blue Groove(TBG) off eBay.

That's great, many thanks. Is there a difference in standard between the team blue groove and mr lexan shells?
Are the turnbuckles fairly common or rare as hens teeth?

Re: Vintage lunford and Mirage SS Shell
Mrlexans' are much higher quality in my opinion, and fit under my original uncut shell perfectly where the TBG is undersized. The RCPS/Lunsford links from the 90's are around but its unlikely you'll find exactly what you want fast or cheap.....but it does happen! Ebay mostlyLuke Burley wrote:That's great, many thanks. Hi Luke, good to see you on here - I pm'd you a while ago on Oople about this forum, hope thats how you made it here
I am sure I used to race against you during the 90's at the off-road nationals, your name is familar...
Good luck with your RC10 project, but beware, it can get quite addictive!

Hi Ben,
yes made it across after oople. Thanks for the help on that.
Yes I raced for Associated in the UK/Europe from 90-93, and remember your name, so I expect we shared many days at the track. I am already additcted and am hoping I can replicate the associated I made the euro's A with many years back.
I still have the shell but nothing else unfortunately!

Re: Vintage lunford and Mirage SS Shell
That will be a great replica project for sure - make sure you start a build thread and keep us all posted!
What Euros did you make the A in? Thats an awesome achievement, I raced in the Barcelona Euros in 1997, and made the 'D' final, not as good as yours, but I drove some good rounds and finished above alot of Brits who outscored me the qualifying year previously at the nationals, so I was happy.
Good luck!

Re: Vintage lunford and Mirage SS Shell
Yeah I loved my RC10. I made the Euro's A in Southend in 91 and knocked Jurgen Lautenbach out of the final which was nice. I also did the euros in 92 in Denmark but just missed the A at that one. Plus I had a few podiums at BRCA nationals when Craig was dominating with the RC10.
I will post some pics when I start building. Looks like the turnbuckles are fairly rare. But the rest looks fairly simple to get.

For reference-
RCPS and early Lunsfords looked identical lots can be found on donor cars from eBay if you look close enough
