55 Chevy Shoebox
55 Chevy Shoebox
Can anyone help me find an article. IIRC it was an issue of RCCA and they did a 1955 Chevy "Shoebox" build. I remember reading that article over and over as a kid it has to be either RCCA or RC Modeler but they didn't do a lot with cars. I'm pretty sure this article was pre 1990. I've downloaded all the old scans and just can not find it.
Please help me if you can!

Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
I'll look through my old collection of RCCA and see if I can find it. I remember the article because I was going to do a similar build. I still have the '55 Chevy body somewhere.

Oct. '87 RCCA has the article you're looking for.
I happened to know this because that issue is the Sprint Car special and I've looked through it a bunch for my last build.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
That would also explain why I couldn't find it as that is one of the few issues that isn't available in the historical archive section on RCCA's website!
I knew I wasn't entirely crazy! Well now to hunt down that issue!
Thanks again!

Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
Thank you but I was able to track a pdf of it down thanks to this site so the tribute build will start soon. Finding a Hornet shouldn't be a problem but sourcing the wheel/tire combo and a bolink 55 chevy body might take some time.teman wrote:I have a PDF of that issue. PM me you email and I'll send it to you
The search begins!
Please don't tell my wife!

Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
You can buy the body from RJ Speed still. They're the old Bolink molds.

Yeah I have seen those on ebay. I didn't realize that they are the same molds. Good to know, thanks!
Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
Glad you found it! I dug up my old issue (Oct 87) and was gonna scan it for you but I guess you're good to go. I should go track down that body and see if I can find it, it's the original Bolink body. Good luck on your build, can't wait to see how it turns out.
Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
Thanks for the help. I don't know how long this is going to take as like a lot of us on here I do have a few other projects but I am excited about this one and am actively sourcing a hornet and wheels and tires. I will update as parts start arriving and the build begins.steelhead wrote:Glad you found it! I dug up my old issue (Oct 87) and was gonna scan it for you but I guess you're good to go. Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
For those that are interested here is the article and basically what I plan on doing. Hopefully I will be able to build it as close to specs as possible but a few things might be hard to source, mostly the wheels and tires and a true bolink 55 Chevy body.

Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
After the 55 Chevy you can do the Petty Grand National (Feb. 88 issue) and Grumpy's Toy VI (March '88).
They're basically the same Grasshopper/Hornet builds with different bodies and wheels.

Re: 55 Chevy Shoebox
I have quite a few of the twinn-k/Aj's tires and wheels
Get me some dimensions on what you would like and I probably have them or something close
