Optima Mid Parts car!!!

Post by Mad Racer »

Have just got this Mid from E bay.

Got it for $80 and has a rare Tamiya red endbell sprint motor.

I bought this to get the gears for my mid as they are toast  Not sure if too many know but these gears are really expensive now. Try $80 for a new gear set. So this Mid would pay for itself really quickly. The Tamiya motor will go in my motor collection. I needed the sway bars for my Mid as well.

Now it's in my hands I think it's a SE not the Turbo as adverstised as it has front & rear ball diffs & front uni's. I'm pretty sure this was standard on the SE. Then again could be optioned out. So I'm really happy . The seller took the bumper & shocks off so I lost out there but this was reflected on the winning bid. :D

The only new gear now that is needed is the idler as it's a little worn.

Just can't wait too get my Mid Custom up & running again. The Mids have really increased lately I feel.

Looks like a SE to me. Sway bars, plated wheels, ball diffs, hard chassis, frp towers.....the only thing I don't recall is the metal speed control plate... I thought it was frp too?
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

I don't know much about the Tamiya motor (you're certainly much more the expert on that) but for $80, I would've hoped to have a set of Kyosho Gold shocks on there... :)

Check out my thread where I build them both simultaneously.

I say its an SE because of the non adjustable (easily adjustable) turnbuckles, the Rear Plate (L), the diffs and the wheels.

I'd say its an SE too, for all the reasons above.

All you need are the Platinum shocks for it, I will be selling a set as soon as I clean them up if you are interested

I have a stock SE with the same aluminum MSC mount, so I guess it´s standard.

Indeed it is, I had a NIB SE 20+m years ago and it came with the ESC mount. A friend of mine still has the box actually and there are pics of it on the box sides.

The SE model always baffled me a little, why did it have ball diffs but no adjustable turnbuckles like on the Turbo Mid?
It seems there was no one Mid with all the fruit out of the box except for the LWB Limited Production Turbo Optima Mid SP

Thanks for the replys guys.

I really bought this for parts. My Mid custom needs new gears through out. This is a SE I say too. Thanks to this purchase I now have ball diffs . I have found gear sets for the ball diff really cheap so this has turned out great.

Kyosho did always cut corners whith a high spec kit. Was always missing some thing.

Thanks for the tip.

It's Pargu 2000 & just google it & it will pop up. Don't like the thought of the alloy gear on a steel top shaft. I'm sure it will be fine just noisy which I hate from a electric buggy.

It's all stripped down for parts & a new gear set been ordered for the ball diffs.

So back on the shelf in a ice cream container till the new parts arrived. :(

Don't we all know that feeling... that's why we have multiple projects simultaneously. Projects re-initiated by the local post man
