Big Jim's Black Book ????
I have had this book for around 8 yrs.
Mr Lone Star (Paul) seems to like this book since he asked if I had a copy.
I have read it over & over again and has every answer you could think of to do with brushed motors including stock motors & silver cans.
Is it a rare book??
Cheers

Wasn't this available as a download for a while?
I've actually never seen one in real life before, but I heard it was a really useful book when it was first released.

I'd love a scan/photocopy of that book. Rare as rocking horse s**t and very expensive when they do come up.
Do, or do not! There is no 'try'!
RC; Boats, Buggies, Trucks, Bash's, Racing and of course 'VINTAGE'!

Re: Big Jim's Black Book ????
I would guess that if you've raced nationals for a couple of years then most of the book's contents is stuff you'd have already picked up from experience, probably without even knowing it. At first I couldn't believe how much knowledge of motors I picked up in my first year of national racing.
Re: Big Jim's Black Book ????
There's one available through Alibris and Abebooks.com out of Texas for $371.76 right now. Makes $250 look affordable. I've used Alibris to find certain obscure and hard to find items in the past.

Re: Big Jim's Black Book ????
I have to ask, Why are these books so valuable? It seems like a great book and everything but isn't it for brushed motors? I figure that would make it almost worthless by now. Or am I wrong and it actually covers both types of motor that we use. Still, I wish I'd bought one originally now.

Re: Big Jim's Black Book ????
Yes this was available as a download for a while but I simply missed that boat bitd I'd love to see a copy of this book for its historical significance and simply because BJ Greenmeyer is a hobby legend and character; but as said above not only is most of the stuff common knowledge for serious racers, but also brushed motor tuning is a thing of the past that people don't necessarily are ready to pay to get an edge on any more... There's a reason why those where requested price are $250 and $371 just don't sell ( mean, cmon, triple digit figures for this... it's ludicrous)

Keep in mind that just because someone is asking a lot to sell theirs doesn't mean it's that valuable... what matters is sales price, not asking price

This still seems like a later version if I'm not mistaken? Isn't Hank the guy that started Hobbytalk?

Yes, Hank was the about.com guy (still have some Team RCV stickies btw, even a t-shirt transfer!) and hobbytalk host. I think BJ had his own forum on HT, both were working close iirc.Charlie don't surf wrote:This still seems like a later version if I'm not mistaken? Isn't Hank the guy that started Hobbytalk?
Very nice fellow, always helpful and friendly. No idea if he's still around... (Hank I mean, not BJ )
