Black & gold custom...

Post by askbob »

After deciding to go ahead and build another gold pan with most of the remaining parts I've collected over the past year, here it is. It seems everything I've put together so far has used only silver and gold details. I've really made it a point to not use any black parts or hardware. Gonna try a different direction with this one using only gold and mostly black parts. Sorta old is new as well. Even though the black parts are the least expensive, I like the contrast with the gold anno. Along with CF parts and a few alloy parts thrown in the mix. Got everything rounded up today as some of the parts, including the chassis are going to the anno guy. Going to try the gold anno trick on the Ti turnbuckles too. Hopefully the gold anno will look good over the milling that was done.

very cool! Are the front A-arm mounts and the "C"-hubs aluminum? What brand are they? I'll be watching your build!

Yes, the front hubs and mounts are aluminum. InetRc used to carry the fronts, but I think they still have the rear carriers. They are B4 parts though, as to run the newer style wheels.

I see some RH and LH Stealth outdrives from Dynotech. Do they manufacture replacement outdrives? Tower has the Associated RH, but the LH is not available any more?

Thanks AE. Still trying to figure out the wheels. Thinking black JConepts Rulux, but do like the DE Borrego wheels, even though they're kinda truck looking.

I would go with black JConcept wheels. I like the DE Borrego wheels, but I think only because they are new and different...they are very truckish due to the beadlock

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll look them up and see if I can get some for my project. Punched in InetRc into Ebay but nothing...

one neat trick with the borrego wheels is adding a colored insert into the wheel. wish i would have taken some pictures at the RCX show this weekend, looks really slick with some CF or colored vinyl...

CF vinyl inserts might be pretty cool. Will have to try and find some pics of that.

Lil' extra time on my hands today!

Wheels turned out good.

Used the Simple Green method to anno the Ti turnbuckles and hinge pins. 9 batteries made the centers of the turnbuckles purple, 8 batteries made everything a more even gold. Cool trick.
