Where I looked, they had other colors like yellow & white, but black was all sold out.

Sorry, but don't fool yourself into believe Plasti-dip is worth your time because a couple websites said so.Coelacanth wrote:I guess you haven't done much research on the product; it's extremely durable. And, unlike paint or powdercoating, you can't just peel it off if you want to change your mind.BrakeTurnAccelerate wrote:Any particular reason it has to be Plasti-dip? Unless you aren't planning to have these mods last more than a couple months at most before it starts to look bad, I'd seriously recommend paint, powder coat, or even a vinyl wrap.Do some Google research and you'll learn a few things.

First hand experience tells me you'll be respraying things a lot more often than you think.

"A couple websites"?? How would you know the extent of my research? And how would you know my intended plans for Plasti Dip? There's a lot you're assuming here. I am going to black out some chrome bezels in my front grille, taillights & fog light bezels because (1) some of the plating has minor surface rust and (2) I would prefer the look having them blacked out and (3) I can always peel it off whenever I want and lastly, (4) it's easy.BrakeTurnAccelerate wrote:Sorry, but don't fool yourself into believe Plasti-dip is worth your time because a couple websites said so.Coelacanth wrote:I guess you haven't done much research on the product; it's extremely durable. Is powdercoat going to work on chrome-plated plastic? What about vinyl wrap, not that this would have any more durability than Plasti Dip would? And why bother painting it, which would require me to sand off the chrome plating first, spray on several coats of black, spray several coats of clear, followed by at least an hour of wet-sanding & polishing to get a consistent glossy finish, and which is a permanent change that I can't easily reverse?
No, I think black Plasti Dip and a few coats of their Glossifier would do just fine, thank you.

No. 95% of paint dries hard and brittle, whereas Plasti-dip stays rubbery. The flexible Plasti-dip would cause the clear coat to crack and flake pretty quickly.LTO_Dave wrote:Could you maybe use a regular clear paint instead of the Glossifier over the black Dip?

I asked if there was any particular reason you need to use it, as it's not particularly durable. Your response was a smart-ass comment that I needed to do some research because I didn't know what I was talking about. Had you responded to me in a realistic manner and told me that you did NOT want a permanent coating, and that it was for bezels, I would have said Plasti-dip was then the only thing you could do, and to just watch for chips and touch them up.Coelacanth wrote: "A couple websites"?? But I don't know what I'm talking about anyways...
