Weak servo - any way to diagnose / fix it?

Post by RC104ever »

So I bought a used savox servo on rctech and although it dies work, it's a little weak compared to the other 3 savox I have, despite being more powerful and faster on paper.

I tried it in all 3 of my cars just to see and there was no difference. One thing, the wires were spliced at one point and it looks good with proper shrink tubing on them but I was thinking maybe that's the problem.

How can I take it apart? I pulled the back off but couldn't see how to get at the inside, maybe just the motor can be replaced or serviced ?

I'd open up that splice and check it out before I did anything else. That small gauge wire is hard to strip and they may have just left a few hairs behind and used them anyway.

In order to remove the board/motor from a savox, you need to remove all the gears to get to the motor screws. Once the motor is loose, you will then need to pry the board/motor assembly left and right (it won't hurt it) in order to get to the screws that hold the potentiometer to the upper case. Remove those two screws and the whole motor/board should slide right out. Once it's out, it'll be really easy to just replace the entire servo lead.

I can't figure out how to take anything out apart from the back - does the front cover just pop off as well? I'm sure once I get that off it would be easy to do but I am just afraid to break it.

Use a pair of pliers and pull the pins out that hold the gears. You may need to pry the large gear that seats to the potentiometer.

Thx, I ended up prying off the middle gear first with a screwdriver and got the gears off but then got stuck with getting the rest off so I gave up and put it back together. Weird thing is it seems fine now. Oh well, put it in and drove around seemed to be okay so I'll just leave it for now.
