Re: turbo optima pinion pitch?
I use the "rocking method" and have for years. I bring the pinion against the spur, then back it out just enough that the spur can move slightly within the pinion's teeth. I tried the paper method but frankly, I've never blown a spur or pinion due to meshing so why mess with what works.
Also in regards to the 0.8 mod vs. 32 pitch. I ran 32 pitch pinions in my Optima for 3 years of racing in the 80's (when pinions weren't the best...LOL) never changing the pinion and never burning out the spur. I'd say 31.75 : 32 was close enough.

I always ran 32 pitch in my Optimas and Ultimas. Never had a problem.

Re: turbo optima pinion pitch?
I would never run 32 on my brittle old Scorpion gears, 0.25 is close, but not close enough for me. If you compare and run the two different pinions over the spur by hand, you can feel the deferens! I have done this because I had all of my 32 and 0.8 in the same bag after leaving them for 0.6 and later on 48 pitch.

I don't think Scorpion gears are even 0.8 module. The ones in my Turbo Scorpion are much coarser than that; perhaps 1.0 module.

32 pitch is also .7938 module. So the difference is really less than 1% compared to .8. Close enough for north korean ballistic missile testing.

Re: turbo optima pinion pitch?
Good thread guys.
I used to run 32dp back in the 80's but sooned learned of the .6 module that my sponsor insisted I give a try. Worked well for me.
Now days I have .6 in one of my Optima's and 48dp in the other. I am yet to run them but they both feel great to me.
I remember when drivers even ran 64dp off road but I don't think that pitch worked so well when debris got in the way. Ultimately 48dp was the better pic as it gave you more gearing options than the old 32dp.
