I had handling everywhere last sunday in 17.5 pan car, the thing looked like a tether car! But you know what oval guys want when they have handling everywhere? MORE MOTOR!!!!
Moral of the story? Oval guys are never happy!

Re: "What's old is still old" UPDATE Hittin' the track tomor
Okay,
it's ready to set down! I left the 10.5 in it, coupled that to a speed passion Gran Turismo esc, added a spektrum receiver bound to my M11, steering will be handled by a 3050 digital that was laying around, and punch will be handled by a 65c Thunder Power Lipo.
Body is pretty basic, looks like the decal monster threw up on it, including a quick little vinyl attempt at a masami hood graphic but in my colors.
I'll update tomorrow night after racing.

Re: "What's old is still old" Post Race Update!
Okay, so after an afternoon of "oh man, I remember those!" my first race with the goldpan is in the books.
It was a long day, with ups and downs and more ups.
I only took about five laps of practice as the track looked like 5pm rush hour traffic, which I didn't learn much. Figured it would pan out one way or another come race time. I ran the "Pro 2" class which had 16 entries for the day. It's above the sports man and novice classes, and right below the pro class, Pro and Pro-2 are open mod type classes except sportsman and novice buggy which are 13.5
Q1 I was off to a good start, kinda getting my sea legs under me as they did a whole new layout on the track. As soon as I started getting a rythm, clipped a pipe, lost a ball cup. session over.
Q2 I replaced the inner and outer steering link ball cups with some used RPM pieces out of the junk drawer. Got some good laps in, trying to get used to the car and the track. I think I drove this session over cautiously, finished the Q2 round in the 10th spot overall
Q3 I decided to step it up, made some adjustments, went out and drove over my head on a track that went downhill from the previous round, lost a ball cup a minute in, session over.
B-Main I talked to Reggie via text a little bit and made some setup changes, bumped the timing on the esc, and I also put a servo saver on the car figuring I'd rather race a car with dumb steering than look at it sitting next to a corner marshall. The car worked well and ended like it started 2nd place and the last bump up.
A-Main made just a couple changes to the car dropping the rear a little bit & snugging the slipper about a third of a turn, and set it down on the tenth and final starting stripe. I missed a monumental 7 car pile up in the first and second turns and ended up running in 3rd after the first lap. at the halfway point I was in 4th due to my own mistake, but was able to capitalize on the 3rd place driver making a mistake himself moving me back up. That's where I was when the dust settled, I ended up finding the right amount of aggression needed for the old car, making wide lines through all the 180 degree corners, and being very hard on the brakes.
I'm going to see if I can't get a better handle on the ball cup thing. seems with my modded bell cranks, and the bump steer spacers on the steering arm it puts the angles of the ball cups to the point where they are easier to dislodge (but on the other hand it's the best bump steer I've ever seen on a '10) I'm going to put all new RPM cups on, and play around with different savers on the servo.
'til next time!

Nice race report. Ball cups popping off in a race was always my downfall with my RC10 as a kid. For some reason we never got along. I ended up going to heavy duty Dubro captured ends and problem solved. Now it was only my driving that sucked!

Sounds pretty good for the first shakedown. I'm using the same motor in my runner. Do you feel it is over powered at all? What gearing are you using?

Re: "What's old is still old" Post Race Update!
Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to running it more!
Bob, gearing is 20/81. That nemisis is a pretty soft motor in my experience, I think the current d3 and revtech 13.5's have more punch than that 10.5 last thing I wanted to do was over power the car while trying to get a handle on it though. By the end of the night I was ramping the esc and wanting more punch though! LOL!

Cool. You must be running on a large track. Looking forward to more updates and setup info.

Yeah, it's big straights with paper clip corners. I could probably go up a tooth, but it would kill my exits I think.
I'll post up setup info and some detailed pics tonight.

What kinds of cars were you running against? Nice to see the 'old gal' can still dance!
