Thats what I was thinking, however one seems to be in really decent shape, the other looks like its not far off from breaking.

so much of this car is flat out beat down, it musta been run hard once upon a time. all the bushings are totally ruined.
Just ordered up a complete set of ball bearings to remedy that issue though

Got my bearings today! I can't believe how much better the front wheels alone feel.

Now when I tear down the Stealth trans, what sort of lube should I use on the diff when I put it back together?

Associated 6591 Stealth Diff Lube (only on the diff)
Associated 6588 Stealth Black Grease (only on the thrust balls)
Nothing else gets Lube or Grease.

Thank you! I took the transmission apart tonight, I would be completely lost without the assembly manual is all I can say.

Just need to give everything a good cleaning everything is pretty gross inside and get some new lubricants and take care in reassembly. This is easily the most complex R/C transmission I have worked on. I was so used to gear diffs. And I still am not sure the purpose of this slipper clutch, never seen anything like that before.

Its looking like it will end up turning out real nice as long as I keep taking my time.

So... One thing lead to another and another.



Long and short decided I should take it down, clean everything and reassemble the entire car by the book. I plan on running this car too, even found a local off road track so maybe I'll try and make it out once this year.

Working on a list of misc hardware/parts I'll need getting down there now though

I saw some where in here directions on how to dye plastic any color you want.
I would use the search funtion at the top of the page and type in dye,plastic,color etc.
Also if your thinking of going new school on your rx and tx the traxxas 2.4ghz tq link is the only way to go.

I was actually considering that, I dyed a set of pink wheels red years a go and was really happy with the results however RC10Johnny is nice enough to be mailing me a proper black one!

Looking at the chassis it looks like its had a few different setups over the years, looks like at one point the battery was mounted vertically in the chassis. I don't intend on running a mechanical speed control so I'll keep it horizontal like it was.

I hope to be running a oldschool radio setup, have a novak ner2x, a older futaba ESC, and likely a Aristro-craft Challender 250/260 transmitter, lets see if it can all work together as a team.

Feels nice to actually get things put together rather then just torn apart...

Spent a day or so getting mummified double sided tape off the chassis then cleaned up all up again. What a pain.

Then breaking down everything so it could be washed and resembled, hunting down the right lubricants at the local hobby store.

so finally tonight, progress!






Freshly cleaned parts, dish detergent does wonders on years old grease and dirt.






Overall the setalth rebuild went very well. Completely suprised that I managed to not loose a single tiny ball bearing, without the manual I would have been so lost. It feels very nice, replacing the bushings with bearings was a good idea.

However in the last picture I have a bushing/washer circled, the manual states that that should be a "thrust bearing".







This has me kinda worried, looks like the steering setup is not long for the world. I am afraid to take it apart for fear it will finish breaking, anyone know if these pieces are still avaliable? Or do upgraded parts exist.

So far I am pleased with it at this point, I have zero idea what to do with the shocks. I can't seem to find a seal kit for them anywhere. One day at a time

You can get them off of ebay, personally for the $ you should upgrade to ball bearing steering. Here's an example, but for some reason there's bushings instead of bearings

There's a few different manufacturer versions of course, just get the least expensive with ball bearings and the mounting hardware.

I guess the late cars dont allow use of some kinds of the bearing bellcranks. The ones I ended up going with hit the ball sockets on the upper front control arm mounts. This little Gold chassis car is getting rather annoying!

The ones I just got in the mail are Houdge (sp?) ones. look like nice units but they in no way will work with this car,

the houge bellcranks will work. but on a tub chassis, you have to install the shanked nut from the top down to lower the bellcrank height.

either that, or try lower profile ball studs for the center link.
