As long as you get the same crank style you can switch from AE to OS. There was all kinds of deals on motors on ebay BITD when 1/10 nitro ST was going strong. Could find new AE pull offs for $50 shipped all day long. This made it easy and not really reasonable to rebuild these.

As far as what I would do...pull it apart and find out what is actually wrong with it. Might be a bearing, snapped a piece of the piston skirt off and it dropped down into the lower half, connecting rod might've bent/tweaked/wore so its binding. Could be anything actually but finding out what is wrong will make it easier to make a decision.

MIP clutches have been getting harder to find since nitro ST has gone down hill. MIP is one of those companies that doesn't really look back I guess...

well i took it apart today and it looks like the piston is scored bad on one side by the wrist pin and it is what is making it hard to turn over the crank turns freely but when i tried to slide the piston up the sleeve it wont make it ill to get a pic of it.

 ouch...its been so long since I rebuilt one of these I don't remember myself if there is a clip or not. I do know that a little clip like should be in there did not make them scores. Maybe part of the wrist pin if it slid out and pinched in the exhaust port...

There's no clip as I remember. It just stays trapped within the sleeve(it's been a while and I'm getting old though  ). That's strange damage to go the entire length of the piston. I hate to be cynical, but your frustrations are reminding me why I converted to electric.

I'd just pull it apart again and see if you can find anywhere where metal chipped off inside the engine and somehow wedged itself between the piston and sleeve. Good luck.

If you wanna go big I would suggest the one below. It's a direct fit in every way. I put it in, but sold it off to convert to electric before I ever even started it. Guaranteed to have big ballz though! I wish I had run it at least once. :(

That's the one I was looking at
I'd like to get that for my 10gt
and go brushless with another 10gt
Just to see the difference
And of course I need to go brushless with my old 10t stadium
That's the plan I'm sure I'll run out of money before I do all that
Plus I still whant to get the kids some thing as well
I'll do what I can

If you're looking for NIB some of the Duratrax RTR stuff is hard to beat for the price. Especially if you have a good Tower coupon.

heres what i found inside the engine.
if you look above the piston you can see the tiny peice of metal.
i looked in at the wrist pin with a magnifying glass there is a clip in there i think the peice i found is part of it..

how the damage got so bad was probably fy fault for another reason the pull start was slipping so i pulled it off and put the one way bearing inside a socket and added a shaft so i could spin the motor over with my cordless drill. here it is.

it worked excellent but when the motor stalled i heard a click it was hard to turn over but i jamed the drill on ther anyway and spun it a few times duh on my part .
maybe i will try one of those easy starts do they make one for the os.18

Sullivan made one for the os.18. I'm not absolutely sure it would work for what you needed it for but you can check it out here:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGFK2&P=SM

and to use one of those you need one of these:

you could pry do a little more reading on that stuff at their website:

Hope this helps...

I didnt totaly give up on the gt i took the engine apart and sanded the piston down so it would slide in there smoothly and no it did not run.
sansad it too much not enough compression.
like i realy thought it would work!
i picked upanother 10gt locally its a little different it has a black chassis and it has a .12 os max on it when the weather clears up ill either switch the motor or get the os .18 and run them both.
ill have to get some pics of the new one up its a bit messy.
but it was cheap.
