rustler vs stamped not what you wuld figure

Post by slim_chance »

Ok so I have both a xl1 stampede and rustler. Both running a 19t pinion and the same spur gear. The rustler is running a 20t traxxas stinger and a novak explorer 2 and a matched cell battery. The pede is running an old stock no name black can motor I bought back in the 90's and a dynamite blast with reverse esc and just off the shelf stick packs. I think the black can is a 20t too I just don't remember. I know they where made for a more equalized class in racing back in the day.

But the big surprize is the pede seems to be a lot faster. I experemented and put the matched cell pack in it and its even faster.

I have to fix a bad connector to the esc on the rusty but there will be a drag race test soon.

Aren't Stampede tires larger diameter? That would give you higher top speed with similar setups.

Yeah they are bigger but it seems to be all around fasted to inclued off the line acceleration. Maybe the black can is just a better motor.

Ok ran them both in a straight up street drag race. Was interesting because I had a controllr in each hand so it took a few tries. The pede beats the rustler through the whole powerband. Wish I had a second black can sitting around. Going to be interesting to see what happens when I convert both to brushless and lipo.

No it is not a tamiya sport tuned but I do have one. The can is just black no decals or anything. If I remeber they where used for a spec class at the LHS that I always hung out at back in South Carolina

I put the black can motor into the rustler and yeah that was the key to the speed. I wish I could remeber how many turns it is. Maybe a 19t. They where used as a handout motor for some race classes back then. Maybe I will just call my old LHS and ask.

Going bushless and lipos is awsome but costs.not only with setup and batterys but broken parts.i have a box full of them and i did replace mostly everything with rpm and some aluminum. And still broke parts...well my son did. My rusty likes to do cart wheels lol

If this black can motor is the rebuildable kind, it could very well be a trinity "onyx" series (mod) motor minus it's label. At one time trinity coded thier motors by color. The onyx series was painted black. It was a 14t double wound motor....and quite fast.

I had a pair of those in a clod buster once. On 3S lipo I clocked it going 28 mph....that's flying for a clod (30:1 gearing).
