RC10 Battery too long
Hello all, I am rebuilding a mid 80's RC10 with used parts so that I can drive it again. My goal is to keep it stock, including the resistor style speed control. I am having trouble finding a battery that fits in the stock holders, the one's i have tried are too long. The battery needs to be in the sideways orientation. I have heard that over time the sub-c batteries have grown in size. Any recommendations on a suitable replacement? I would prefer the pack pre-assembled, but will build one if needed. Thanks Limestang

Re: RC10 Battery too long
I haven't tested it yet but I will in the morning. I think a side by side battery set up may work. I will put one of my matched cells packs in to mine and see what happens. Do you have the battery set up that runs up the middle or from side to side?

cut the end off the battery pack so you can remove the bulky plastic cover(the side without the wires). I have a couple batt packs that are like this for this very reason.

Usually, one would drill two new holes for the battery cup, and move the cup forward a 1/4" or so. Thais also allows for centering of the chassis as most of the original chassis were mis-drilled from the factory. -Jeff

He wants to retain the manual speed control so the battery needs to remain in the stock orientation. I ran into the same problem with mine; since it isnt driven, I removed the shrink wrap and plastic ends from the pack and was able to squeeze it in there.Jay Dub wrote:Usually, one would drill two new holes for the battery cup, and move the cup forward a 1/4" or so. Ok both of mine are center mounted and the end of the graphite's battery cup was already cut off to fit stick packs when I got it

Re: RC10 Battery too long
Thanks all for the ideas. I will try modifying one of my older battery backs. Madweazl - I took a double take when I saw your RC10, I have the same radio system:)
Re: RC10 Battery too long
I got 2 or 3 in various trades. I never had an RC10 or Aitronics radio back in the (I was Losi and Futaba faithful
) so I figured they belonged together.

Re: RC10 Battery too long
I figured out a pretty easy fix for this problem. I trimmed off the ends of the two battery cups. A standard 7.2V stick cell from Tower hobby fits snugly against the sides of the chassis. Very easy to implement - I recommend using ugly used parts so you don't feel bad about cutting vintage RC10 parts:)
