My new RC10GT

Post by Sylvain »

Hi guys,

I recently began to look for vintage RC10s and RC10GTs. Here is my last addition to my collection.

A brand new, never ran, RC10GT black tub chassis.

Yes, the original unpainted body but has masking tape inside for many years. Can't remove the tape without leaving glue residue on the body. I'll have to clean it up carefully.

Also have the original manuals, antenna tube, stickers sheet and few others goodies like the VHS tape.

The engine has a broken fine but it has never started. No insert in the tires.... LOL

The original GT has white nylon and produced in 94 (If my memories are right). Any idea what is the year of this truck? 95?

Pretty sure they were still making the black tub GT's well into the 2000's. IDE say you have one of the later years because when they were starting to produce the black nylon parts they went through a phase of having white and black parts. Yours is all black but it does have the white wheels still so it is probably late 90's early 2000

I've used the wayback machine and on AE's website, they announced the blue chassis for early 2000.

I found nothing about the black tub with OS 12CV engine included.

Very nice, I bought the very first RC10GT team truck when they released it. I know because I was running the Duratrax conversion kits att and was working at the LHS.
Was all white dye black due to time faded to bronze color.

I guess I was way wrong. Thought the black tub was around longer than it really was.

That head is off of a cv motor. Might be a cv head that is on a cz-z but can't tell by your pix. Did any kits come with motors. I know the gas truck conversions did for the 10t but most any kit I have ever bought the motor is excluded...

The engine is really a CV (written on the crankcase) not a CZ.

Usually .12 CV comes with with a red head not sure why this one is silver. Maybe to differ the OEM from the retail engines.

the first ones were silver. Shortly after When the .15 came into the drawing boards they knew they needed something to differenciate the 2 sizes easily. I've had and seen several silver heads out of the box. But then again I have never bought a kit that had a motor in it either...

I believe you but here's what I've found on the web about the Silver head engine

Those are the engines AE includes with the Team and FT GT kits. I guess though bought too many though (since those kits don't seem that popular) and they just sent the rest of the bulk engines to their distributor, Tower Hobbies. AE just ordered everthing in natural just to give the engine a different look. Other than that, they are normal 12 CVs and 12 CV-Xs.

I'm confused ! LOL

Romulus,
thanx for that. I never knew that part. Even the LHS owner doesn't remember selling them that way but if he never bought them to sell that way he wouldn't remember them.

Sylvain,
yeah, me too. I know for a fact I bought one off the shelf at the LHS many years ago with a silver head. When I opened it in the shop we all did the headshaking thing and I left it with shopowner. He called up his distributor and got the story I stated above. But that is heresay also since it wasn't me talking to a person on the other end of the phone. Don't think it was something to shut me up either since the same thing was stated over and over when the silver heads come to the shop.

Thanx for showing me something I didn't know today guys :D

Todd.
