Vintage sping motors

Does anyone have more info on this motor? I have heard it´s ultrarare and the brand was the winner of IFMAR 1/10th offroad -84. Motor from Sweden.

More info would be great.

Looks like a basic Mabuchi 540. Not saying they aren't rare(I've never heard of them), but I doubt that particular model won any championships in 1984. Not being an ass or anything, just being honest. They may have some higher end models though.

I can understand how you think and i dont think a mabuchi 540 style motor won either but here are two pics i have borrowed from the Swedish forum www.rsb.se and Jörgen A (i hope he is okey with that or else i will remove them).
I have tried to find some info myself but it´s not easy.

Kinwald started racing in 88

that mill looks like a stock mabuchi... it probably had cranked up timing though, as this was pretty "usual" (ahem) bitd

No, that is an old friend named Mike Geim. He worked at and was sponsored by Neil at REVTECH in the early to mid 1980's in So Cal.

Me and another buddy still refer to Kinwald as Mini-Geim

Don´t know any real details but I have heard from these motors long ago. I think I have seen that Sping motor somewhere at a report from an early 1/12th Euro used by Neal Francis or Bill Masey or both.
Have to dig trough my old magazines.

OK found the report I thought of. Indeed the Sping motors were used at the 1982 1/12th Euros at Watford/UK by at least 3 drivers. The British Phantom drivers Neal Francis and Bill Maisey also Terje Haugen from Norway used Sping motors at the A-Main at this Euros. I have no informations if other drivers used Sping motors there.

The British drivers used Sping motors with 28T single wind and 27T double wind. This means you could assume these motors were handbuilt no cheap production motors. I doubt there were double wind production motors available that time.

BTW the motor at the picture is not a Mabuchi. Any pics from the front and rear of the motor would be helpful but even when looking from the side you can see (if you know the difference) that motor is based on an Igarashi can not a Mabuchi.
I have old Reedy motors also based on Igarashi motors what look the same, the only difference being the cooling hole. All Igarashi based motors I have seen until now are completely closed so it´s possible this cooling hole was made specially for Sping.
