Hydra Drive Noob Q

Post by huminski »

I'm trying to wrap my little brain around the hydra drive.

I thought that the unit itself acted like a torque converter, using the fluid within to act as a slipper clutch.

But then why do you install the hydra drive unit on top of another slipper plate and pad?

Help!

the hydra allows you to set your friction slipper more loosely then you typically do with friction pad only, giving you better traction on tracks with rapidly changing conditions.

it gets complicated from there, but it basically allows you to mix together a linear slipping action and an exponential slipping action. It can be tuned out by simply tightening the slipper clutch, so having both gives you flexibility.
