Re: CAT XLS question
I would have definitely been interested kaszal if they would have been available still. Sometimes I think I am a bit anal checking the BST forums for items I am looking for. This is just proof I am not checking to much...next time perhaps

Re: CAT XLS question
this is a bit of a long shot but here goes. The XLS I picked up a bit back has not been treated kindly by time. The screws in particular have seen better days. I was wondering if there was a kit made today that uses a similar amount of screws, nuts and such that I could just purchase instead of trying to replace each one individually. Thanks for any help that can be provided~Mike

Re: CAT XLS question
You can get some nice screws from modelfixings.co.uk - i made a spreadsheet with all the important ones required when I replaced all mine with hex cap/button heads; I can dig it out if you're stuck...
EDIT: Oops, I just realised what the "IL" stands for in your location tag... sorry...

Re: CAT XLS question
Can you scan that spreadsheet into the Scans section? That would be very helpful to many of us! If not, perhaps you could send me a copy too?QuackingPlums wrote:You can get some nice screws from modelfixings.co.uk - i made a spreadsheet with all the important ones required when I replaced all mine with hex cap/button heads; I can dig it out if you're stuck...

Re: CAT XLS question
Sure - I didn't even know we had a scans section! I'll dig out the spreadsheet and upload it.
I mostly replaced my pan and cheese heads with socket buttons and caps. The nearest I found to the self tappers were UNC 4/40 and 2/56 - they still have a higher tpi count than the stock self tappers but they're holding better than machine screws would. Luke, did you find any better alternatives from ModelFixings?

Re: CAT XLS question
Wow, some detailed work there Eric, thanks!
I use M3 machine screws because I have the alloy inner housing and alloy z-bracket (that's about 20 screws). The bolts for the rear wishbone brackets and front gearbox clamps don't screw into plastic either. I've used longer screws for the front upper wishbone spacers and the H bracket.

Re: CAT XLS question
Dang, another item I no longer have from my old racer! I'd forgotten about the alloy z-bracket!
Which one are you calling the H bracket Luke? Have you managed to track down the part that replaces the two plastic chassis posts in the middle? I used to have alloy Optima posts in mine - I should try to find some for my rebuild!

Re: CAT XLS question
I use a Bosscat H bracket between the chassis (it's the bit the servo mounts to). I sanded it to fit and it seems strong enough. The top deck is 3mm thick carbon fibre plus I also have the famous undertray strips
These stiffen the chassis nicely. How's your Cat coming along?

Haha - I'd be a lot closer to finishing if I stopped looking at your beauty and lusting after more bling that I can't possibly afford...!kaszal wrote:I use a Bosscat H bracket between the chassis (it's the bit the servo mounts to). Next on my list is the fibrelyte chassis/deck/shock towers/undertray strips set. Man, this will end up costing me more than the SX!
Re: CAT XLS question
Yeah, I hear you
sorry about that...
I've spent hundreds on my Procat but at least I know there isn't one like it. I've recently added the Works rear suspension and got some alloy front brackets off Incredible Serious.
These bearings are an excellent spec for the price...

Re: CAT XLS question
Are those different sizes? Where do they fit? I haven't looked at replacing mine yet but I suspect I will need to before I run it - the bearings in mine don't look too bad from a cursory visual inspection. More expense pfffft!
