Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts

Does anyone here know Atlas personally? He might be a good source to get CAD files for some of the parts in the drawings above.

I'm not sure he would be willing to give up his work to the 'competition' but you never know...

I work in 2D and 3D CAD. It's my job. I also own a 3 axis cnc. Time however is a problem.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I took this one of Alex's build and added some photochop ugly circles and labels. I can modify if people want other stuff (like the rear hubs which might be nice).

Are the bearing bores press-fit, or slip-fit?

I found this link to a bearing kit on TH in one of the other threads, so I now have a bit more of a sense of the scale of this, as well as bearing diameters.

Pulling the first photo into a sketch in Inventor, then scaling it so that the bearing race dimensions fit gives me a center to center of .5 for the top gears, and .75 for the bottom. That at least seems to be the most logical, but I'm likely wrong.

Going by that, the axle shaft/diff gear(s?) seems to be 1.0 inch pitch diameter, with 0.5 inch pitch diameter for the other remaining gears.

Anyone care to confirm?

I can say that 99% of everyone will want slip fit, the damn 3/16 X 5/8 bearings are hard enough to get out of the stock nylon slip fit cases

Ok, thought it would be slip, but wasn't sure.

I'm pulling down the cad models from mcmaster right now, I figure I might as well play with this a bit more and get a rough model rigged up while Johnboy and I work out the timing.

Charlie, did you mean 1/4X5/8? I can't seem to find a standard bearing in 3/16X5/8. Is it a special item?

bearings are 3/16" x 5/16" for the top and idler, unflanged.

outdrive bearings are 3/8" x 5/8" unflanged.

Walt they are 3/16 x 3/8 plain (for transmission case topshaft, idler and front wheels)
and 3/8 x 5/8 plain (for transmission case Diff)

Ok, good, so I at least got that part correct.

Anyone care to throw up some basic measurements of the height, length, and width for this sucker?
I can't really pull that from the image because of the tilt distortion.
I figure the more info I can get before I have anything in-hand, the better prepared I'll be to get things going.
