Sloppy steering- b4.1

Post by kdog »

b4.1 rtr. How much slop in the steering is "normal"? I have been through and tightened everything but there is slop in all parts of the front end. It seems excessive to me. What are some ways to reduce this? Shims, better servo, etc.. Thanks,

Lots of slop is "normal" and expect more as you run it- the only fix that I was happy with was to replace the steering kit/arms/rack with the older B4/T4 graphite composite set. The downside is that it is more prone to breakage if you snag a pipe-

... and it isn't even quicker on the track

The B4.1 plastics are considerably sloppier than the B4's... my FT B4.1 looks like it's 5 years old after 5 races (winter indoor race series=, whereas my B4 was more solid after the same kind of treatment.

Frankly, don't sweat it, just run it as is. Sloppier cars are a bit easier to drive for us mere mortals :)

Sometimes if you remove too much slop, it can make the car more difficult to drive. I've experienced that on both onroad and offroad cars.
If i have excessive slop, I try replacing parts that may be worn out before/rather than adding shims. (hinge pin bushings, ball cups etc)

i use the plastic chassis on my factory team graphite b4 for just that reason. (i think the pros did too)
i do have the firmer steering though.
