CAT XLS question

CAT XLS question...on the front suspension there is a pin required to connect the two sides to the main chassis. According to the manual I need a 2 x 40 mm pin that has to be bent. Any ideas where I can find the above mentioned pin? I need it to go in the hole on the bottom of the picture

It's only part of the crashback system so probably doesn't need to be particularly tough - any 2mm wire bent at the appropriate angle is likely to be work fine.

I suppose it's safe to assume I can use rubber bands for the "tension bands" as well

O-rings work better but if you can't get hold of any then just make sure they're nice and tight, or else they'll spring back under hard acceleration!

I am not really a fan of the O rings...the always seem to snap easily. Can plastic zip ties be used as a viable option. They are cheaper and more importantly readily available

BITD we always used rubber bands. There were those who used zip ties, but without any give, the front end was more "fragile". The hinge pin is just a bent piece of music wire. Measure it with a calipers, and buy some at the hobby shop. -Jeff

You just need better O rings
I had a buddy back then who worked in a machine shop and gave us an endless supply of heavy duty ribbed (oo-er!) o rings that seldom broke. The stock ones were forever breaking though...

TBH I used rubber band too, but just had to keep them tight. Cable ties are too tight IMO - you'll end up snapping the lugs off the uprights instead unless you're good enough never to hit anything... Ever!

'O' rings are out in my opinion also. They allow little 'crash back' action only to snap when really tested. Everyone used to run rubber bands (I use the heavy red ones) as these allow a little more give should it be required and rarely snap or give way mid race like the O rings do.

Even on the Topcat the O rings give way much easier also. I want to lock my crash back out in my 2WD.

Can anybody suggest a bumper that will fit the CAT XLS. I found a few originals on the bay but not really looking to pay what they are going for.

I'm speaking with a company that might make an alloy Procat style bumper (I already have some prototypes) but I don't know long that will take.

Some Kydex might be good for making up bumpers.

You're right, it's to spread the load and stop the belt cover splitting. I made it with some thick lexan. I took it off and just dremelled away the belt cover around the holes. It's still sealed with foam tape. I used some reinforced tape to keep it securely in place. I've left the holes at either end to keep it straight. No more splits and no fear clamping the chassis together tightly!

I also borrowed a tip from someone... run the anti-roll bar UNDER the top deck so it doesn't get in the way of the belt cover.
