The gold on those nitrided shafts just poking out at their ends on the pivots & on the shock absorbers, really sets it off By the way didn't the Kinwald have these on the car as standard??

I normally build my links up by first individually holding each ball-cup in a vice (with the jaws protected with taped-on balsa wood) Then pre-tapping them using the turnbuckle itself - making sure I do a left & right hand thread to cups for each link. I then snap on the loose pre-tapped ball cups to the balls & then line up the corresponding turnbuckle & thread on both cups at the same time.... this way not only does the ball hold the cup captive whilst its being threaded on it also ensures you have equal amount of thread in each side

P.S; I used the same non-VLA graphite wishbones on my XXXCR2 as they were cheaper than the later version.... I like that fact i'm still running at least one XX part on my 'modern' racer... also I wasn't aware there was this later anodising colour for the shocks.... my early XXX are the same colour as those in my XX kit?

I dont think they were standard on the Kinwald XX, but I know he (and me) used to use cut down nitrided shock shafts where possible (inner pins front and rear).

My 'green' rear shocks have just arrived, funnily enough. I think they'll look better too - but yes, I wasnt aware of them either, but I have bagged me a set now! I'll need a set for my G+ too!

My new shocks arrived this week, these have the newer 'dark green' style anodising which I think will make the car look a little more up to date. I managed to find a set for the rear, and found two fronts thats match, thanks to a helpful ebay seller who had 3 up for grabs. I've also got some 'hard body' shock stickers (thanks to DerbyDan for these!), although I am now not sure whether these will look right on the newer shocks, maybe I'll use them on the XXT instead

And here's a pic of my boy driving our Mini-T for the first time. His hands are just about big enough to hold the transmitter! He's not even 3 yet, bless him. He had a massive grin on his face the whole time.

Jamin that is truely a great picture. I am glad to see your little boy intrested so young. my 5yr is in and out. he likes to help me wrench but doesnt really like to drive very much. the controlers are to big for his hands, so he has a hard time. I thought about getting a mini he could run around the liveing room. but he shoes enough intrest I buy him cars all the time, at least thats what I tell the wife

Cheers Rick! The mini-t controllers are alot smaller and he can just about hold it (full throttle mostly!) Your 5yr old would have no problem holding one...

No he uses the other which is pretty much standard, apart from an Orion Baja motor (believe it or not its actually my wife's car - she's great!!)

I used the 4 'AA' battery cage and fitted 4 standard rechargable batteries to keep the voltage as low as possible. could do with being a little slower TBH, maybe an original motor would be better.

Desert truck looks way cool! Not sure if they are slightly bigger? Even though they are still 1/18th, if that makes sense?

yea it does, I had a 1/10 desert truck but I gave it to my son in law to run, while he was doing his tour in Iraq. I will be getting another one. I loved it but the 1/18 one is pretty cool also. my sil is transfering to VA beach next month so they will only be 3 hours away insted of 1800 miles. we are going to be doing some Racing this summer. so I am holding off to see what we are going to race before I buy anything else.

Now you've put a picture in your sig of your JRXS racer I remember it now from the STCC.... your local track I presume is Coastal? One of my favourite circuits on the STCC calender

With regard to shocks - you are correct, the last meeting I did at Moto Arena I wanted to try a softer setting so quickly whipped off the shocks from my original XXX from around 1999, which I knew had 30wt oil in, to put on the CR2 - I then noticed that they have the grey/gold annodising (as per your photo) The bodies in my NIB XX kit are definately black, almost with a hint of purple. I think the Hard Body stickers would suit these earlier shocks better The grey/gold anno on the 'smooth' bodies match that on the latest threaded bodies.

Hehehe, thanks. He was wrapped up nice and warm as it was quite cold, but when he got hold of the tranny I instantly thought 'that suits him', only trouble its a steer-wheel, not a stick radio - they are way too big for his little hands.

Coastal is my home track, yes. I love the technical tracks like Coastal and Southend (which is made even better as its a bit more 'off-road' ). The picture in my sig was taken at Bedworth, RD2 in 2006, I can remember the corner it was taken on too because quite a few times I'd could get it to do a nice 4WD drift

I am gonna try the other shocks and see what happens, I liked the idea of the 'hard body' stickers....

I finally sprayed up some spare discs this weekend, I went for Neon Red as this was quite a popular colour BITD with these wheels, and also something a little different - metallic black to match the shell, which I actually think works quite well!

Edit: Oh, and I also fitted the dark green shocks, which you can just about see from the pics - I'll have to take some more body-off pics.
