Jamin's Losi XX-CR - Old Skool Pics
Hi all, I thought i'd post up my vintage rebuild of what was a XX Kinwald edition that I bought new all those years ago - I still have the box too.
This car was raced for one season, and hasn't seen daylight since - sitting in my loft for years, but recently i decided it would be cool to rebuild it, and I have been search ebay ever since!
The car looked like this when I started, still in reasonable condition, just a little rust on the steel parts, and various parts that needed swapping out.
Here is what the car looks like now, although not finished. I have fitted the following new parts so far:
Graphite Front Wishbones
Front Spindles & Carriers
Ball Joints
Front Bulkhead
Front Bumper
RPM one piece drag link
Springs all round
Titanium shock shafts
Motor plate
XX-CR conversion including rear pivot plate, block & hubs
Graphite rear wishbones
Graphite rear shock tower (not pictured)
All new screws/nuts/e-clips, just to make this car as new as possible.
The hydra drive is from an old XXT truck I bought from Canada (I live in the UK), which will also be rebuilt (will post a separate thread for that)
I have a new original XX bodyshell to spray, but I am not overly keen on the shape tbh. I have seen another XX for sale with a new kinwald shell, I might just buy the car for that, and then sell it on!
I've also got some new parts aquired recently, which I'll post up soon...
I really am not sure which way to take the build. Pretty convinced is not gonna be a runner, but I am not sure whether to keep it OE, or fit newer components like threaded shocks, XXX-CR rear hubs, XXX wheels etc.
I know this is an RC10 forum, but its the best vintage forum by far, hope you guys don't mind - the AE stuff on here is just awesome, and is what I am aspring to!

I say go race it. With some new XXX shocks the XX is not all that different from modern rides. I just unloaded all my XX stuff as I needed some space and I am sure will regret it one day. Nice car!

I thought about it, although there was a black on there before I started, for some reason I prefer the white one, although I might change my mind!bearrickster wrote:very nice car. you should dye the front bulkhead. you can do it jut heat it up slowly.
I might race it if the track was nice and dry, otherwise the wet grass/dirt ruins them, alot of work has gone into this so far. I might so another as a runner, we'll see.RCveteran wrote:I say go race it. With some new XXX shocks the XX is not all that different from modern rides. Cheers for the comments chaps.

Re: Jamin's Losi XX-CR Kinwald old/new rebuild
I love these cars I have mine in a box still collecting parts for a full rebuild. but when I get done it will be to nice to run. I had the motor plate redone and it looks great so I dont want to scrach it up. I might build a runner with the left overs. but I still run my Pro se. get it all painted up I cant wait to see it.

Re: Jamin's Losi XX-CR Kinwald old/new rebuild
Here are some more parts that arrived this week.
IFMAR stud tyres as if I remember correctly, thats what the kits used to come with, along with some XXX weels.
I managed to find someone selling a new gear cover and a wing wire - the old one was rusted up.
And finally driveshafts, I have been trying to find a pair of Losi aluminium ones, but have yet to find some, so steel it is for now.

Where did you find that gear cover? I've been looking for one of those for some time now...jamin wrote:Here are some more parts that arrived this week.

Re: Jamin's Losi XX-CR Kinwald old/new rebuild
I must admit to not liking them all those years ago. I would always spray the discs neon-yellow to make them look like disc wheels. Having put the XXX wheels on the car I think it looks quite effective, I just wanted to keep the car as OE as possible really.bearrickster wrote:Looking good, I like those wheels over the stock ones I never really liked the disc wheels
Do you know anyone with some new XX wheels & clear discs? I' like to spray up some in orange or red, just for when the mood takes me...

Re: Jamin's Losi XX-CR Kinwald old/new rebuild
Thanks for these! I do have some wheels, although not new. Even if you have a pair of rear lexan discs that are in A1 condition would be fine.bearrickster wrote:jamin wrote:Do you know anyone with some new XX wheels & clear discs? Not sure about the white wheels, I prefer yellow, but lets not start that debate hey!?
