Hot wire foam cutter

Post by Frogwagon »

This is my hot wire foam cutter I threw together today. I'm goin to make it a little better, i just wanted to see if i could make it work, and with a better power supply i bet i could. Any ideas for a low budget power supply? as long as its from 4 to 9 volts and about 5 to 10 amps it will work, i can use a dimmer switch to adjust the heat.

If I remember correctly , guys would use a transformer from a train set . Your local flying club would be able to offer up some alternatives also .

a door bell transformer is also a common source I think, and pretty available at any hardware store.

Well i reworked the foam cutter today, i think its a little better now. I found an old computer and pulled out the power supply and im running it off the 5.4v 18 amp circut. Dosen't take long to cut through a 4 inch foam block.
