Stealth Bearing questions

I'm just a little lost. I have this old white stealth transmission that came with a used buggy. I wanted to try and use it on a DS but it did not feel right. So I decided to take it apart and rebuild it by just cleaning everything and greasing the parts.

OK first thing I noticed was that the two differential bearings were two different inside diameters. OK I'm pretty sure thats wrong but can it possibly work correctly like that.

OK that was the first thing I noticed. Now for the good one. When I started to take the bearings out of the two transmission halves, the half where the drive gear/shaft assembly comes out of had what looks like a small washer. I'm really lost here. Is that done on purpose or is it left overs from a bearing that failed in the past.<br /><br /><br />with all bearing installed

The two different size bearings will not work. And, yes, that does look like a leftover part of a old bearing rather than a shim.
