Bart's sprint car suggestions.

Post by b0x »

Hey guys, I have been lurking around for awhile now, post from time to time, just soaking up information. I am only 23 so I wasnt around back in the heyday of the RC10, so this is all new to me. The thing that impresses me the most is the incredible amount of diversity that has cropped up over the years. When you couple the amount of time these cars have had to evolve with the fact that that bodies came unpainted, in addition to the countless aftermarket manufactures, the possibilities are really endless. I have yet to see similar cars, and I have looked at just about all the pics here. Very cool stuff.

Anyway, I grew up a sprint car fan and have been to quite a few races. After my friend giving me an original RC10 for free, I was just doing some research and stumbled onto the sprint car conversions and the whole dirt oval world and I was hooked; I had to have one. I was very close to buying a kit new but decided to keep an eye on ebay for awhile. I found one that looked great last week and I picked it up (surprisingly the only bidder).

It has a stealth tranny that is very very smooth and some decent looking wheels with some old tires, but they still have tread. The decals are great, and mirror a Lance DeWease paintjob, who I had actually heard of. Everything on it matches. I also looked on the RD site and 2 of their example cars are different DeWease paintjobs, which I thought was interesting. It also came with 2 top wings and a decent servo. The bottom is virtually scratch free. Blue threaded shocks, RPM turnbuckles and ball cups.

Now for my question. What motor and pinion/spur should I put in it? I dont know a whole lot about motors... I have an e-savage and they talk about 540 vs 550 vs 600 motors, but around here I hear about different numbers of turns, so I dont know what to do. I will be using a novak rooster ESC. I dont plan on racing it yet, so I dont need anything fancy, but I would like to just play with it, at least in a parking lot, if not on a baseball field (softball would be even better, no mound and all dirt infield), as I saw hoopty suggest, which would be a blast. I have a race prep motor in the rc10, but that will probably go when I sell it. Right now I have have an old no-name motor with some chewed up pinion/spur gears just to mock everything up, but they all 3 sound pretty nasty. Any input appreciated!
