[Still Valid]1:1 car wheel set shipping to WE - suggestions?
Hi Guys, I have a non-RC question which some of the many (full size!) car buffs on the forum might be able to help with... i located a set of four nice rims for my car in the US via ebay... but I live in Western Europe. The seller, who posted his ad saying "US only" says he's willing to ship over the ocean if I can suggest a solution. But I have no idea what is a good value-for-money service provider for such a sizeable package (compared to the usual 1/10th car kit!!!) could be. I'm already getting cold sweat at the amount DHL or FedEx would charge for this.
Would you have any good suggestion(s)?
Thanks!
Paul

I had a gearbox sent over from UK (1 europallet) and I used a Danish shipping company. They did the pick up in UK and delivered it to my door. 130 kg´s at app. 120 euro.

Thanks Dennis - any chance you'd have the name of this company? Maybe they do it the other way around too!DennisM wrote:I had a gearbox sent over from UK (1 europallet) and I used a Danish shipping company. They did the pick up in UK and delivered it to my door. 130 kg´s at app. 120 euro.

I would ditch the heavy tires and have him ship the rims in four separate packages

Depending on the sellers location there are probably many choices besides fed ex and ups. I sold some wheels across country many years ago. Took them up there and they plastic banded them to a skid the shrink wrapped the whole deal. So just so you know there might be more choices.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
CRAP - they're sold already
Oh well...
Still this should be useful the next time around - my seller was not into "international shipments" so he was looking for a turnkey solution it seems, so least effort from him. And it looks like he was right as they sold to ConUS (i think) to start with...
If for the next time around someone can suggest carriers a la UPS/FedEx/DHL who don't practice UPS/FedEx/DHL prices, even if it means many days of waiting, well, I'm still interested
Thanks!

I've bought a lot of used JDM and EDM Honda Civic parts from all over the world, and the sellers always shipped DHL. Nothing as large or heavy as wheels, though.
I had fragile 25+ year old plastic lights and thin metal window visors arrive without any issues. The prices were always reasonable, usually cheaper than shipping things UPS or FedEx within the U.S.

Guys, the request is still valid... a bit of research showed that actually new ones can be sourced from some big online wheel retailers... still none of them offer int'l shipment... so if you guys still have a good suggestion I'm taking it.
I need OEM STi wheels for MY08+ (be it the 5 spoke, the BBS, or whatever, as long as price is OK) - they're 18"x8.5". I really need OEM to make the swiss car services talibans happy, local laws are super strict
Thanks in advance!
