M03 and Midnight Pumkin truck *updated 2.20.10*
Here's a project that has been sitting on the bench. I wanted to merge an M03 chassis with a midnight pumpkin shell. Kinda looking for a hotrod truck.
Here's my progress so far:
So, I used body mounts from a TLT. In the rear they are hanging up the suspension- nothing a little dremel and glue can't fix. I am undecided on the wheels and tires. I am also undecided on the chrome body- I was first imagining flat black with red highlights. I have another NIP chrome body and sticker set- so I am not afraid to do something to this one.
It's weird driving a front-wheel drive chassis- plus I am used to MT's so onroad driving is pretty crazy but I am picking it up. It already has swaybars- upgraded shocks and a black sport motor.
Let me know what you think or any suggestions?!

Here is a link to a similar project (not mine). May give you some ideas. It is one of my favorites!

Neat!
Why didn't Tamiya do something like this?
You need a good set of hot rod style wheels to do it up right.
May I suggest something like these HPI's:

yeah that is a really sweet look. instantly I know what I want to do and then there are still some things I can go any direction on:Brandon G wrote:Here is a link to a similar project (not mine). May give you some ideas. It is one of my favorites!

I need to change the tires- What would be a tamiya wheel and tire setup that would be a little bigger than the stock mini cooper/m03? A white walled tire would be perfect.
I defintely want to do a flat back and hightlight with red- even a flat copper with weathered look. Try to score some cool decal or paint effect on the door- weathered. (Jesse James has a VW done on monster garage with the weathered copper look)
I am on the fence as far as stance goes- the one for tamiyaclub was nice and makes me think twice. But that can be worked out after the paintstuff.
Thanks!

Are you talking Gratiot Ave? I am from Ypsi and still have family there and in A2. now I live in the middle of buckeye country and can't really share that. They are a lot more personal about College ball here than I remember theregiggles wrote:I like it used to live in detroit and cruise my mustang around that I use to have. i can see that truck in real life in the dream cruise. looks good

Re: M03 and Midnight Pumkin truck
Yeah, I think the HPI wheels and tires would be the way to go. I had a set of them bolted on my mini and they fit fine. The wider rears bolted to the back along with the truck body should look pretty sweet when done.

Re: M03 and Midnight Pumkin truck
I briefly looked at HPI's stuff yesterday- the rims look like the way to go. I am not too keen on the HPI "vintage" tires- the wierd rubber tread takes away IMO. I will research some more when I am out of "busy" at work etc...

Small world,
I used to live about an hour from Detroit.
Moved out of MI years ago. (I don't miss it too much)
We used to go to the Autorama, & North American International Auto Show at Cobo every year.
Saw AC/DC, Queen, Black Sabbath, (and a few more) back in the day at both Cobo & Joe Louis Arena.

I agree on the tires.
I love their wheels, but I wish they would've done a better job on the tire pattern. Plus they have a weird staggered inner diameter preventing the use of Tamiya tires. Up close it's not that scale, but it looks good on a shelf.
