Removing paint from Associated's nylon wheels?
Removing paint from Associated's nylon wheels?
Guys, I have some old front RC10 rims that are painted. I want to strip the paint and dye them. What can I use to strip the paint that won't hurt the nylon? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Matt

Trying using lacquer thinner, nail polish remover on the inside of the wheel to test. CA glue remover works well too. Might get a little expensive since it only comes in small bottles. Got all the paint off a world car chassis w/o damaging the anodize. Not sure how is on plastic but it should be okay. Just make sure to test it first.

I've heard of guys using Super Clean to strip paint off of Lexan bodies and I don't think that would harm nylon.

I just used Citra-strip and it worked perfectly! Smells much better than the other options. I did a set of 10T wheels painted spray paint. The stripper dissolved the paint without any damage to the wheel.
I also striped a set of rally weapon wheels that seem to be a different plastic painted with what looks like Pactra (the body was painted the same). Took a couple coats and some scrubbing but came off with no damage.

Re: Removing paint from Associated's nylon wheels?
to remove chrome plating from wheels people have used oven cleaner or draino (i have never tried these methods cause i like my chrome lol). removing superglue people boil them or use acetone. i would give one of these methods a shot. i have also used brake cleaner to clean nylon parts without any problems. brake cleaner will also peel paint.
any chemical method i would test out on a unpainted scrap piece of nylon before i would try it on the wheels that you are planning to reuse.
