gearing for stealth runner

Post by aconsola »

I've got my car back together. I think it is a CE, it has a stealth trans. I am using 2.1" rear 3piece wheels with losi tires. I put in a modern 27t stock motor(one of the unlabeled epic handout types)
What is a good gearing to use for general around the yard bashing?
I'e got 78 and 87t spurs and most pinions from 12-25.
Thanks,
-Anthony

I don't have much experience with stock motors in the RC10 series, having run Mods. Gearing for just playing around with a stock motor, I would go with the 87 spur/12 pinion for maximum run time. Make sure you monitor motor, speed control, and battery heat.

Otherwise just gear to get a 4 - 4 and 1/2 minute run time if you wanna play the way we did back when.

12 teeth seems very low to me.
I'd start in the high teens and you'll probably end up in the low 20's with the larger spur gear. You may even get into the mid 20's.
Bought my first RC10 in 1989

not that i would ever put an 87 on a buggy, it's a little overkill ( in my opinion ). but if your limited to an 87 and a 78 spur, i'd use the 87 and somewhere near the mid 20's for a pinion.

the only time i used an 87 spur on my 2.25 car, it had a 36 pinion on it. now, that was running d.o., though. the motor just seemed to like the big gears.

Depends on the run time desired, I've run a 93/12 with a 19 turn mod for long run times.
