Chassis Tape Experiences

I bought a sheet, stuck it on the bottom of my runner world car chassis, cut around the screw holes where screws already were. Only problem is the glue is super sticky when I was cutting around the screws and i'm sure it will attract tons of dirt. if I ever take the tape off it looks like it will be a massive cleanup. Also, trying to cut the tape around holes that were empty was almost pointless.

As of right now I plan on using goo gone to remove the sticky glue which has spread from cutting the screw holes. Anyone have any tips on the best way to use the stuff? Best brands etc?

run it under hot water prior to removing the tape it helps,also works well with removing decals

Yeah or if you have a heat gun or hair drier that will help but you will still have some clean up.

its very sticky thats for sure, had some applied to a buggy undertray which was purchased second hand. soaked the tray in many types nitro/metho/kero and was still hanging on very well after 3 days of soaking. used shear determination to remove it a little at a time.

i just cleaned a chassis off that had the chassis tape on it. took a while but the glue came off very easy with goo gone.

I mainly use WD-40 for any sticky residue, servo tape, decals, stickers, etc. Works well

Soak the chassis in Purple power it will remove all of the glue and dirt the chassis will look new.

Just some experiance form owning a sign shop, 3M adhesive remover--areosol type, no oily residue to clean up like purple power, WD, or goo gone

3m adhesive remover is a medium-drying solvent, which is the most useful product you can use for what you're doing.

Personally I prefer Wurth CleanSolv, another medium-drying solvent, it works great.

Another, more unorthodox approach I like, which is especially good when completely removing chassis tape or old stubborn velcro, is to use either some "freeze spray" from a soldering-type electrical supply store, or to use canned, "duster" spray, but hold the can upside down.

The frozen propellant will harden the stubborn adhesive, and then you can scrape it off with, say, an old credit/membership card, something that won't mar your chassis.

My favourite tool for that is a set of sturdy fiberglass cards, that are special tools for removing trim panels, and can be ordered from BMW dealer parts departments.

i normaly use either goo gone or techspray label and adhesive remover.

its called a "lightened" chassis that don't look like cheese.
