Re: What individual parts are needed for Optima belt convers
In addition to the belt and diff cogs, the transmission case is slightly different because there's an extra grooved belt guide that spins on a small shaft. It's possible it may work without it, though. :) I think the idler raises the belt up a little so it doesn't rub on the guides. So, without the...

Re: What individual parts are needed for Optima belt convers
You need the belt, front and rear belt diffs, re-designed rear gearbox, idler pulley and lexan cover. See the attached belt-drive conversion instructions. The belt and diffs are the same as in the Optima Mid, but the gearbox, idler and lexan cover are Optima specific.

Re: Brushless in a Vintage Gold Pan
I concur with Eau Rouge. My first goldpan still has the original 6 gear trans with the original nylon idler gears. I've bashed it with modified motors for 25 years, repeatedly ran a 10 turn (54,000 rpm) brushed motor with 8 cells for drag racing with friends (it used to hit 60 mph with that combo) a...

That's the one that comes with the Turbo Optima; I've never had any issues with it.

I use a 9T pinion.Coelacanth wrote:ROH73, with those 10 & 12 turn motors, what motor pinions are you using? I have a hardened 9T, 11T, and several normal aluminum pinions of higher tooth count.

Re: Need some tech advice re: Turbo Optima gear upgrading
In my opinion, I think you shouldd leave the metric 0.8 module (just about the same as US 32p) gear set on there. The various US 48p gear sets that were offered made pinion gear selection easier, but they didn't strengthen the drive train; the original gears are pretty strong. I've run 12 and 10 tur...

Re: Give me some buggy body options for Optima/Turbo Optima
The Associated Viper body is about 6.25" wide where the battery would be if it was mounted on an Optima; in comparison, a Turbo Optima body is also 6.25" wide at the battery, so the Viper should work. Viper: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2708&P=7 Regards, Robert

Re: Vacuum molder
For clear, PETG (what soda/water bottles are made from) works pretty well, although it's not quite as good optically and some question its durability, but I've never had a problem. Thickness for 1/10 car bodies is 0.030".

Re: Vacuum molder
It sounds like you have a good start. As long as your vacuum pump can pull down to about 25 in Hg, it should work well, but you'll also need a vacuum reservoir to rapidly evacuate the total volume of air under the mold. Lexan needs to be pulled down in about 1 second because as soon as it leaves the...

Re: Vacuum molder
Home vacuum forming lexan is not easy. It took me 6 months to develop my vacuum former and I have several hundred dollars invested in it. Heat source and its placement are critical to have even heating without hot/cold spots. 36x18 is a huge vacuum former (it's a professional 220v size); there's a r...

Re: YOKOMO 834 Dogfighter project
I've never had a problem with my stock motor mount, but then again, I don't race and pretty much just baby my RPS SE around the back yard :D . Pargu2000 sells a stronger one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Yokomo-RPS-SE-YZ-834B-alloy-motor-mount-red-colors-/140358612413?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Radio_Control_Vehicl...

Re: Rocky 4wd Survivor
Thanks for the differences info; I'll have to look into it. I have four Rockys, so I need to do some comparing :D . The first mod I made to my Rocky was two shocks in the front and Kyosho golds all around; that made a huge difference. Here's a Turbo Rocky article scan I posted in 2009: http://www.rc...

Re: Rocky 4wd Survivor
What are the chassis differences between early and later Rockys? I know it was intended to be more entry level vs. the Optima/Javelin, but when I first drove my Rocky I was shocked how well it performed. To me, it can easily hold its own vs. the Optima and seems more durable. There may be more plast...

Re: Rocky 4wd Survivor
Very nice!!! I love the Rocky and Turbo Rocky. IMO, it's such an underrated platform and particularly in Turbo form, there's nothing "entry level" about it.
