Driven it some more and it's definitely tail happy ! You can get the back end out on loose surface and spin up the back tires ! You could probably tighten the centre diff up to give more drive to the front and if it was easy to get parts I'd give it a try but although it's designed to be adjustable it's still a geared diff and won't live long that way , it's still fun to drive .
I guess the meat and potatoes question is how does it compare to the Hotshot ? Sadly the Hotshot with a lower centre of gravity and mid motor design means it's hands down better handling , the Samurais saving grace is it's steering though , it's got no bump steer and turns way better without dropping dog bones all over the track because of the 3rd diff .
I guess only time will tell if the under guard saves damage but even for a little driving there are rub marks under the rear gearbox .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

The video is with the stock silver can motor and a Tekin gold Fet on NiMH 7.2v , it's quite light too 1.6 kilo fully loaded compared to my Hotshot racer of 1.55 kilo !

Just swapped the motor for a bit of a mystery motor I got recently , it's a helicopter motor with a nice red alloy front can end a bit like a Kyosho Le Mans can, it's a triple wind probably about 18 turn , goes pretty well with it :D in my front garden this car is really nice to drive , I'm homing in on a good shock set up , it came with really to thick oil in the rear so I went to 10wt , that was too low but 20wt seems good , it's so heavy at the back the springs are set quite hard to stop it bottoming out , I'm not surprised that the rear upper shock mounts are a regular weak point in the design , the front end is beautiful to watch , the wheels just flutter over the bumps , a total contrast to the rear , it's tempting to try a much lighter battery to even out the balance a bit .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
