AYK/Race Prep Radiant Pro Chain Driven 4WD
AYK/Race Prep Radiant Pro Chain Driven 4WD
I finished restoring this little gem last night. The AYK 4WD Radiant Pro is similar to the AYK Radiant/Maverick/Boost. It is a chain driven 4WD. The Radiant Pro shares not only the same orange colored suspension as the Boost, but the Boost body as well. This is not really a surprise considering that Race Prep in Canoga Park, California, took over the US distribution for AYK after the Boost was introduced. The Radiant Pro won National ROAR titles via the skillful Race Prep Racing Team (the Dunn brothers). Race Prep offered various options for the Radiant Pro including the fiber saddle back battery tray and a protective lexan bottom shell as shown in the pictures. In addition, the Radiant Pro also came with optional front axles and wheels that allowed it to only go forward (many races did not allow reverse). The wheels that fit on these axles had locking bearings in them that did not allow them to spin in reverse.

Thanks for the comments guys. This wrapped up my Off-Road AYK collection. SO I guess now I'm looking for a new obscure brand to start collecting - or just take a break for a while.
Spidey - I happen to have one of the largest inventory of AYK cars and parts in the US - including tires. All my restorations are done with new original vintage parts (I'm just picky that way). The tires on this buggy are in fact new. The silicone white powder forms on them over time and I don't like to take it off. By the way.. try to find a set of brand new original AYK tires like these. heheheSpiderman wrote:put some new rubber on there buddy

Ahhhh! I see now... My bad Spidey - yes you are right. I should have taken a look back and zoomed in at my pictures (or at least gone and taken a look at the car!) instead of being so quick to reply to your post. My apologies. I thought I had put new tires on. I'll have to take new pictures now. Arghhh!

Once in a while I take out either an AYK 4WD Radiant or a 2WD Buffalo. But as you know I don't really find much fun in driving the things so a few runs along the beach every blue moon is about it.

I know of one brand I didn't see on the vintage sites (might have overlooked it) They're still around actually: MRCInetRC wrote:Thanks for the comments guys. Ever seen one? I think it was the French branch that was selling these.

Yep MRC, Model Racing Car, they made the Santana series, 4 and 2 wheel drive buggies... but sincerely, they look ugly, the plastic parts suck and they never really hit the top, even in France... I'll search for some pictures...
