Oh yeah, I've got that one on my shelf. Half the pages are loose from looking at it so much back in the day. One of my prized possessions for sure. 8)

Damn...

Back in the day, I let a friend barrow all of my magazines that had truck reviews including this issue. Those are the only ones that are missing from my RCCA library.

It sure was. I got mine Christmas of '87. What a POS. My father actually called the president of Varicom (I have no idea how he got the number; he's good with stuff like that :D ) and complained so much they sent me enough parts to just about build another truck.

All said and done, however, I had a lot of fun running it in snow and mud. I still like the truck and have bought three on eBay in the past two years to do a restoration and have spare parts, as I plan to run it again.

Anyone need a copy of the Big Grizzly manual? I have it scanned in pdf format and could email it.

Don't need a manual. I have the original that came with it the same Christmas, IIRC. Could, however, use more parts & donors... especially the center gearbox. Can't believe the rear output's splines actually stripped-out! Like watching those one-way front hub inserts fail day-1 wasn't bad enough... or watching the bushing in the end-bell cap of the factory motor eventually blow-out! BTW: The included heat sink is a joke!

Even though this thread's a bit old, I'm fairly certain the absence of the Big Grizzly in the shootout was bought up by a reader in the letters column later on. IIRC, RCCA said Varicom couldn't "supply" them with the truck in time for the article.

As said above I wore that issue out too. I'm pretty sure some of the pages are still stuck together...
