SC10FT Diff Balls and Hex Conversion?

Post by joeman37 »

Looking to build my SC10FT kits and I want to convert to hexes right away, is there a kit that has everything I need or do I need to piece together from associated part numbers? Also do you guys have a recommendation for diff balls? Stock, kit ones or ceramic or what?

Thanks!

Not sure if they still do, but Proline used to make a complete kit for the front. I used it for mine and was around $30. I check my pit bag and found the part number was 6068-00.

I can't find that kit in stock any more. I am guessing it was discontinued.

I pieced the conversion from individual Associated parts at Tower:

Steering Block: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBKEF&P=7
Axles: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBKEG&P=7
Hexes: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBKEJ&P=7
Would these be the lock nuts I would need for the ball studs?

Would I still need bearings or do the front wheel ones from the FT kit fit the steering blocks and axles?
Without bearings I am at $19.26 which isn't too bad, better if I do not need bearings.

Oh yeah what size lock nut do I need for those front axles?

Should I go with aluminum hexes right off the bat too?

Thanks!

The front wheel bearings will work fine as long as there in good shape. The wheel nuts would be the same front to rear so if you have some spare rears you can just use those. Aluminum hexes are not absolutely necessary, but they are more secure. If you go with some aluminum clamping hexes you don't have to worry about them falling or coming off when take off your wheels/tires.

I am assembling 2 brand new kits into oval modifieds. Bearings are brand new! Thanks for the feedback. I'll order up some parts on Sunday.
