My first Yokomo ID'd and now building

Post by vsefiream »

I've been poking through this section a little trying to figure out what I just bought. This is another impulsive Ebay purchase and maybe I paid too much but you guys can tell me. I think it's an early YZ-10:

I'll post a pic when I'm not on the road. I feel a little out of my element here but I have always wanted a YZ-10. It looks like I'll need the center diff and it looks like this motor mount might work:

I have the matching front rpm bulkhead if you want to swap me for the magnesium front
Or I have a spare magnesium rear bulkhead for your rpm one.
One way or another we could combine to make both "right"

I'm learning as I go as well, mine was pretty bad and I have been taking it slow (back burner). I'm not sure about that center mount, it says it will fit so it must

I may take you up on it GomachV. I'd like to make it a runner so the RPM stuff sounds interesting.
Am I correct thinking it's an early YZ-10?

Looks like mine, either a YZ10 or a YZ-870c Super Dogfighter, same car- different body and Country
I have the direct and the one way adapters, but no shaft, spur, or pulleys for you. Mine was also missing quite a bit.
as a runner my bets are on the RPM bulkheads as well, magnesium didn't hold up well.

I like the looks of the dogfighter so I ordered the body and tray from TBG.

That motor mount will work just fine. Depends what your looking for, stock or a runner pieced together. Battery posts can be a hard find for these. I probably have all of the center shaft parts (new or used) you need, and stock motor mount (new).

Sorry. It was not intended as a solicitation. I asked where I could find parts, not if anybody had parts. Kinda a grey area so I'll be more careful with my wording next time.

A big thanks to Aaron and Jeff, now I have a solid grasp on this build.
I tore the car down and cleaned all the parts. I found the backbone to be barely glued on. In following the instructions, I have sanded the main chassis and backbone.

Image

I glued the back bone on and let it sit for a night. I recieved the center diff assembly from Aaron and the front bulkhead from Jeff. I bought a factory motor mount off Ebay as it was cheaper than the purple one, state side, and included bearings.
I have enough parts on hand, now the build can begin.
I rebuilt both front and rear diffs. I have heard horror stories about getting these apart. Luckily there was no issue. I was able to take them apart, clean and rebuild them. They are not perfect but much better. I left the front a touch looser than the rear. I also cut a top brace out of fiberglass sheet to further brace the chassis against flex. I have to dye the brace but I'll wait until I get a better front shock tower just incase I have to dye that as well.

Looking good.. I have a similar YZ10 project I am doing using the RPM bulkheads.. Still at the parts getting and finding time to work on it stage.. I'm going to be making a top plate and shock towers myself and have my drawings set up to do some test fitting hopefully this month.. I am looking forward to your build..

By the way, does anyone have a copy of the RPM bulkhead instructions or know what the numbers indicate for the belt tension? Is 1 loose or 5 loose?

Shawn

Thanks Shawn. I don't have the instructions but it's just a cam. I really didn't spend much time looking at it, I just set it on two for now. Look at the bearing carriers, the bearing is offset in them. Check to see which position places the bearing closest to the center diff, that would be loose and the farthest would be tight.
