New Member Introduction...

Post by SoAzRC »

Hi - I've joined this forum and have been enjoying ALL of the posts. I am currently typing here in Tucson Arizona at my old home which I sold to my son. We will be leaving for Angola Indiana on the 15th to our lake home (better fishing there). The primary reason I joined this forum is to gain knowledge on the older AE stuff for my sprint car restorations/constructions. I am 66 years old (in two days) and have enjoyed RC racing for about 15 years. I like open wheel the most and enjoy building my own CF chassis oval racers. I also dabble in buggies (B4), oval Bombers (B4 chassis), short course (SC10B - new), carpet spec oval (RJ Speed - sprint), USVTA (TC3) and general rock crawling (TLT extended and home-built cage). I am also an Ebay Power Seller and look forward to getting into the B/S/T section of this forum. I left the sport for a couple years, but am now back and I've got two projects going:

1) Ascot chassis sprint car
2) B&R cage sprint car

I have acquired, through Ebay and other sources, nearly a full set of Andy's suspension parts. I have one question at this time if anyone can help: did Andy ever make a RC10 Rear Suspension Mount? I'm sure I'll have other Qs, but just wanted to introduce myself... thanks. Richard

Hey Richard, welcome! Sorry I can't help on the Andy's rear mount question (I would be interested too) but like you, I found this forum and as you'll see soon, it is not hard to descend quickly onto the path of rare, expensive old parts project build lunacy to relive your glory days in rc (or some other pet project/infatuation). Hah, just look at my gallery for some examples.

Welcome and enjoy!

Adam

Welcome aboard, Richard! Just as an FYI, the Andy's rear suspension mounts are part # 3456.

Thanks AEIOU... I will add that part number to my build log. By the way, a mutual acquaintance just listed those rear mounts and I SNAGGED 'EM. I now have a full Andy's suspension (found the front short arms elsewhere).

Yep, been in Tucson since 1979... but... I retired in 2002 and decided to buy my in-law's lake home in Indiana. After years of back-and-forth, we're changing our primary residence this year, but I'm keeping my name as SoAzRC because I've been using that for 12 years on various sites and NWIndRC is harder to type...!

Welcome Richard! It's great to see I'm not the only older guy (52) who is interested in these little gems.

Welcome Richard! It's nice to see another Rich here. :) I spent lots of time in Tucson as my Dad had a house there up until this past year which he sold and moved to Carson City. We used to hit a few spring training games every March.

I've never gotten into baseball so much, but everyone who visited us here over the years wanted to take a game either at Hi-Corbett Field or TEP. It was always exciting for them because most of the players were relaxed and signed autographs aplenty. I love Arizona... but I also love fishing. In Indiana I now live on a lake (50' from my door) and I can relax. I can fish anytime and I'm close to several large RC tracks (Stateline in Fremont and Summit City in Fort Wayne) where I can race my oval sprints and VTA (vintage trans am). What could make a better retirement?
