RC12E Funny Car

Post by PlastiZapCA+ »

Like I really need to start another project! :? Anyway I've decided to build a funny car based on an RC12E since: 1. I have most off the chassis parts for a build. 2. I have just sent a rare Asscoiated 1/12 Vega Funny car to TBG for reproduction. 3. I want to find out how fast an RC12E can go with a Novak brushless motor system. 4. I want to build something that will be a step apart from the norm. I want this car to be a thing of mechanical beauty. I'm still waiting on supplies to come in,but I'm getting this thread started so I can gather up some ideas. I'm going to be doing a lot of thinking on this to see what I can come up with. Feel free to add any ideas you might have on it too.

This is the chassis I have chosen. The big fat donuts will be trued just enough to run smooth. Looking into having the wheels and other parts plastic chrome plated.

This is the Associated body that TBG is replicating for us all shown on my 12E Clone Project. Now we can run it with out fear of damage since there will be plenty of them.

I'm even thinking of adding a functional parachute.  I've ordered two six inch rocket parachutes to test.

Being a noob to brushless, what motor would you run on a car like this? Remember it only has to go in a straight line for a few seconds. Keep in mind that this thing is also ridiculously light so I need something that wont be too overpowered. It will be fitted with wheelie bars sitting down low. I plan on using a 5000 or 4500 nimh pack sitting down low to purposely add weight to it. I want to keep it all Novak too. I'll also be running a diff on it so I can play with how much spin it gets off the line.

Ideas so far.

1. Wheelie bars
2. Parachute system
3.Brushless
4.Chrome plating of parts
5.Body opens like a real funny car with a prop rod

1. Wheelie bars
2. Parachute system
3.Brushless
4.Chrome plating of parts
5.Body opens like a real funny car with a prop rod
6.Clear lexan underneath of chassis to keep air from entering body. Not sure if this would help, but it would look cool.

That's exactly my thoughts too. I'll make a battery tray that will allow me to move the battery in several locations. Just wait until I get to the testing stage! You just know there will be some crashes.

TBG says the body will be a piece of cake to replicate so it's about guaranteed that we will have plenty of Vega funny car bodies soon. :D I won't get the original back as it's usually ruined during the mould making process ,but I would still rather share it than just have it sitting on a shelf in my collection. It's no fun if we can't actually use it.

7. Radio tray allows batteries to be moved forward for weight distribution.

Thanks guys! I've got some supplies in for this build so hopefully I'll have something to show by the weekend. As soon as TBG releases that Funny Car body I'll let you guys know.

TBG sent me some pics of the 1/12 Associated Vega Funny Car I sent to them. He said it came out perfect and lost no details and it's easy to see from the pics. It should go into production in about two weeks. Can't wait!
