UK RC10 rebuild

Post by upforit365 »

I have just purchased the following car on eBay:

http://www.myalbum.co.uk/Album=EZNHHVPI

As you can see it needs some bits to complete: tranny, tranny brace, wheels, body, wing, etc

I was directed to this forum after doing a bit of searching around. All I can say is wow, there are some great builds and lots of incredible information. I am hoping I can do at least something acceptable with what I have bought.

Does anyone on the forum have any suggestions for a new UK based RC10 owner as to where I can source these parts? Obviously I am looking on eBay, but I wondered if there any other online sources that are worth looking at?

Thanks in advance and I will keep people posted as I progress!

Hi and welcome.

Whilst I don't post here very often, I do read (alot) and use the search.

I have struggled to find any good soucres in the UK, it comes down to patience on ebay and how much postage you are willing to pay.

http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk have some very nice carbon fibre pieces.

http://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk do some nice 2.2 wheels.

If you find any more post up and let us know.

finman,

Thanks for the tips...:) I always wanted an origial RC10, but never got around to buying one. I must be having a mid life RC crisis!

I am happy to buy from the US, so I'm hoping to get some tips for good online sources in the US from the forum.

As you've suggested, I'm looking at ebay across the pond and in other parts of europe too (France, Germany, etc)

Keep the tips coming!

Just remember a mid-life crisis tends to be expensive :D .

If you're having a midlife crisis, then I must be in the middle of a meltdown!

Nice score on the light gold chassis and welcome to rc10 talk!
eBay, though evil in every way, is probably you're best bet for parts. If you stick around long enough you can get buy/sell/trade access and you might be able to get some parts you need also.

BTW, those batteries are really old and outdated and and probably wont hold a charge so you can send them to me.
just kidding.

Use the search feature here and you'll probably find all you need to know and more about RC10's.

One other thing, give your wallet to your better half now!

Jon,

My wallet has already seen a bit of action with regards to buying RC10 bits!

I've been doing a bit more searching around and found a few places here in the UK that seem to have some bits for the older RC10. They are mostly Worlds car related (black components). They also seem to have a few of the old bodies available to order.

Apex models: http://www.apexmodels.com

DMS Racing: http://www.dms-racing.com/

CML Distribution: http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/

Wheelspin Models: http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/

Podium RC: http://www.podiumrc.co.uk

I've just put in an order for nose brace tubes, body mounts and various bolts, washers, etc from one of the above.

Welcome. Could be a cool look there. Smooth and polish out the bottom and leave the sides and the rest gold. The unsanded parts of the car look to be in decent shape.

I've now received my RC10 "project"

Image

Having looked over it, apart from the obvious missing parts, there are missing/incorrect hinge pins and the driveshafts aren't correct as they rub on the wishbones. This will all need to be addressed to complete, otherwise everything else looks in pretty good shape.

I've already started buying parts, I've set myself the challenge of sourcing as many parts here in the UK (Keeping the USA ebay parts spend to a minimum due to postage and customs charges). I've decided not to create a "period accurate" replica due to parts availability, but I'm happy with this approach.

Finally, not quite on topic, but I thought people might like this picture of my just taken out of the cupboard RC10 B3 that I raced twice indoors before retiring. It has B2 stickers on the body as I bought a B2 with a B3 upgrade kit thrown in.

I'll update the thread as I progress......

Well, I have been busy collecting more parts (including a stealth transmission). I have now broken down the buggy and will start the rebuild this weekend.

Those of you that said the RC10 addiction is strong, I have also purchased another gold tub based RC10 and a lovely Graphite chassis RC10.

I will post pics up over the weekend.

Thanks! It was the last one I painted.

Although it looks like I am going to need to do a few for my new RC10s!

The dogbones rubbing just means you need to make sure you have the correct spacers inside the rear shocks.

Very nice cars!!

I've managed to buy some MIP CVDs for the gold pan RC10, which should sort out the problem of rubbing wishbones....
