Any Egress experts?

Post by Northy2 »

I'm trying to get an Egress back to a running state, but I fear it's a bit of a mish match of bits. I have a few questions:

Did the Egress come with fibreglass shock towers? Not carbon fibre?
Did the Egress come with a carbon fibre steering link? Are they still available? Mine is ali, is that Avante?
How easy are the main lower chassis to get? Mine is broken.

That'll do for now. I'll get some pictures taken when I get a minute.

Post up some pics. I have an Egress and Tamiyadan is pretty knowledgeable on the subject as well.

Here is an excellent blog about restoring an Egress.

10 Points to tamiyadan for his answer.

About original Avante I have to say that it was a somehow capable car in Finnish soft and bumpy sand (=stone ash) tracks. The local Tamiya importer hired a former 1:12 European champion to drive Avante for a one year. He managed to win once national cup race with it and he was also 4th (if I remember right) in nordic championship, places 1-3 went to XLS CAT and to the Sweden. I also have to say that he had also normally many kind of problems with his car.

BTW: Are you guys interested about RRC articles about Avante 2001, Egress, Vanquish, Top Force, Top Force Evolution, Astute and/or Super Astute? If so, I could start to put them in scan archive.

Wow a lot of great information here, I forgot I'd asked these questions!

OK, so I'm watching a couple of Avante 2001 chassis on Ebay but you say they are not the same as the Egress? I'm not bothered about them being FRP I was just going to use one to get a new chassis made in cf.

Not sure if you guys know or not but I also run the sales side of Atomic Carbon, and have made some carbon fibre Egress shock mounts, they are 2mm matt cf to match the cf used at the time.
