One of a kind Nitro Rc10 Buggy

im building a nitro Rc10 Buggy, based on the Caddilac Rc10 Gold Pan.

totaly custom build, but yet using Stock Rc10 parts with little modifications.
for the mock up or "proto type" the buggy will have stock buggy parts.
for the final product, it will have MIP CVDs, aluminum steering bell crank,Andys control arms, all bearings. using TRX15 pull start motor, period correct electronics. i plan to use an original body with out cutting it up too bad, it will have custom exhaust (maybe ,depends on the motor)

i thought of this when i was staring at my rc10GT.. i tore one GT apart and started building. i have the buggy built, its about 75% completed.
it will be tore back down for cleaning , and Re anodizing , ECT.
it doesnt look as nice as i was hoping, but this is the early stage of the project.

does any one here on the forum Re anodize tubs? im wanting to strip down my tub and anodize it gold. i cant find any one locally that can do it.

i will post pics of the prototype when i upload the pics.

just trying to get it to look some what like a buggy, dont wanna post a picture of a wreck

theres lots of time spent putting some thing together, and then last minuet something dont fit, then its back to the drawing board.
tonite i manage to get dog bones installed, but i had to change the rear castor blocks and the shocks will have to be mounted on the back of the rear control arms.

my goal was to keep the same wheel base as the buggy, but its nearly impossible.ill be using the caddilac body, will be the same length as the electric buggy, except for the rear wheels will aligned with the rear shock tower, instead of behind it.
it will look like a regular rc10 buggy , except for the muffler along the driver side,the head of the motor sticking out of the body a little, and a shorter wheel base .. im guessing itll be an inch or 2 shorter.
i recently made my first purchase on Ebay for a combo deal on vintage radio and servos , but after 3 days of the payment , i still have not recieved my shipping information nor have i heard from the seller, starting to get worried my second purchase from 2 days later is already in the mail according to Ebay.

tommorow when i get it more assebled, ill post a pic or 2.

super fast update

i pretty much have it all planned out. i have to shorten my tub, or the front nose plate , body fitment (use old body for markings/template ) and rear suspension. the rear suspension is what im stuck on now.

if you look at the back side of the rear control arms, there is no where to drill holes to moun the shocks. on the front , there is more material to allow you to drill.. i need to mount the shocks on the back of the control arms, not the front. ill have to post pics, im hoping some one here will have an idea on how to solve my problem.

its obvious im working on this as im posting.
i switched the rear control arms around, and i think its gonna work.no trimming of the control arms required now
now ill be able to post pictures of a roller thats all together

it doesnt look like anything nice, but when its done , itll be pretty sweet
rite now if i install a reciever and a new pull start / batteries, i should be able to start it up and run it

the tub will be stripped down along with another nose plate, re anodized gold.
the tub also needs to be shortened about 1 inch so i can fit the original buggy body, still have to fab up an exhaust set up. im going for exhaust running through the rear shock tower and exiting behing the body like a real dune buggy i have real nice white parts that will be going on this buggy.
should be cool once im done

I am not sure, but a nitro DS chassis may be shorter already. Before you test run it, please put some front nose tubes on there.

I've kicked around the idea to do the same thing when I had a couple XXXNT's laying around. I was running a XXX buggy at the time and almost made the jump...

Looks good, get it all done and shoot some video of it ripping up the road.

i took the buggy apart for cleaning.
soaked a bunch of rc10 nylon parts in 90% hydrogen peroxide,10% water in a big plastic jar with a lid on it. the parts got whiter, but not like i was hoping.
i think i had too much nylon parts in the jar, and with the sky being clear, then cloudy then clear all day. probably a good soak in the sun light all day theyll get whiter

im also thinking about putting a volks wagon bug body on this when im done. save the rc10 buggy body idea for later on.

Take the lid off, let them all sit in the sunlight for a couple days. Be patient...

out side air temp. doesnt effect the whitening process does it?
can you soak individual parts in small zip lock bags or does it have to be a container?

I couldnt find a good container...so I cut the top off a water bottle (plastic 16 oz), dropped the parts that would fit and filled with peroxide. Set it on the hood of my truck 2 days in a row and felt good with the results. Dont know if heat/cold has any effect.

One thing in reading about it, dont have it in a sealed container, let it air out. Builds up excess "gasses" that could make the lid tight or in the case of a baggie, expand.

I don't know about "one of a kind," as the second RC10GT I ever saw the owner had removed the truck body and wheels and tires and had installed buggy stuff.... way back when...

now im building 2 of these things
one will be a buggy like i originally planned, the second one will get a truck body and tamiya black foot rims/tires. waiting for parts to come in from ebay ,
theres a rc10 part lot on the bay if it stays at a reasonable price thatll be enough parts for 3 of these rigs, 1 rc10vw , the rc10 buggy ,black foot rc10.
also waiting for my rc500 parts still i hope the seller didnt flake on me

been raining a lot ,the parts are not white enough yet, id like to get about a day for it to sit in the sun

this project is now on the back burner. i robbed the chassis tubs to finish 2 fix n sell projects.i guess i will use this thread for all of my rc10 projects.
the idea is to fix and 2 nitro rc10 trucks ,and take that money to fund re anodizing and the body and motor for this build. well i should say builds, i want to build a nitro buggy, and a nitro rc10 buggy truck conversion.

do you guys think the original 3 piece 6gear gold pan rims would hold up to nitro power?
