Buggy Champ Build...

Well not yet, but i am pricing one out and buying one along with all the random cheap at the moment hopups.. Was looking for some direction and answers..

So far i bought:
Upgraded Shocks
Aluminum Wheels
Stainless Screws
Tamiya Diff
and im waiting for one of the buggy champ rears to become available from HK

I dont think im going to go crazy with hopups since i would like to run this on the beach this summer.. maybe a upgraded chassis, awesome alloys isnt making chassis's anymore, but there is a tamiya club guy making aluminum ones.. I may go carbon fiber too, dont know.. ill see how the fiberglass peice holds up

Questions:
1. When painting the body (im going to go with the original 2 tone scheme, havent chosen 2nd color yet, but i "assume" most guys paint the body white instead of leaving the "white plastic" exposed due to the fact tamiya plastic ages and turns tan.. so i should paint white?
2. What battery can i use for this, would like lipo's
3. Are there any brushless options that can fit in this car?

you only have to paint it french blue as Tamiya makes the large sticker for the white part.

Tamiya came out with some special lipo for this car but I'm sure a quick check on the bay will net you the same battery and size at a lower price. I'll go old school and run a 6 cell hump pack.

buy the upgraded aluminum chassis. the new one is still flexy and you will eventually break the front of the body on a hard hit or big jump.

Take the diff out when you run at the beach. The stock spool is better for the sand.

well since awesome alloys isnt doing chassis's anymore, or anything at all apparently, i went with a aluminum chassis

heres a picture, i popped off the brass gear from the original rough rider arm, and popped off the steel gear off the original arm, and swapped them.. will post some pictures of it mounted up soon, waiting for some plating to be done on the gear cases

got my rear gear cases and front mounts back from powdercoater, got it in a flat black. added some rc4wd white shocks, fit great in front, need to cut body and weld a aluminum post in the rear to make them work, think it will look great. Added a polished chassis from the UK also. and painted up the body.. i am waiting on Tires from CRP (getting paddles/smoothies ala scorcher style) since i want to run it on the beach.. Also ordered from chrome plated wheels from the czech republic (figured would be lighter than aluminum)

Pictured is the Slipper modification, i am awaiting on a 19t 05mod pinion, and need to make a end cap for the slipper, but fits and works great. added a CRP brass idler gear (vintage) in there also.

Only thing im waiting on is RCChannel to make more of the buggy champ rears with zero camber, really want to get one of those running here.

i kept saying to myself, well i spent so much on this kit already, let me keep the mods to a minimum, and of course like a idiot i went all out on them.. bah!

took some more shots with a 23T/78T - 6.78:1 FDR combo installed.. probably would work better over a 19T/82T - 8.63:1 FDR

just need to find a clear cap now, this is the original from the DF03 here

I feel your pain .

I've got a couple projects that have a little (actually a lot) more $$ invested than originally planned....

I was thinking about the RC Channel rear suspension for my yet to be completed 'Scorcher too.

I can't wait to see how this turns out!

i actually mounted up all the electronics, minus the rear arms and axles, and it spins and powers up pretty nicely. Used the Black can tamiya stock motor (new), the ESC that came with it, a spektrum reciever and like a $39 dollar futaba servo...

Only thing left i need to find or make is a rear transmission guard, that goes under the gear case... 50calibercustoms? used to sell them.

should be a blast to drive...
